Thai Food @ Bukit Genting Hill, Penang
Continuation from my long list of posts regarding my trip to Penang, this one is about this little place known as Bukit Genting Hill. Awesome name right? A Place with two Hill in it’s name. Getting there requires a bit of a drive towards Balik Pulau towards the south west part of the island, in term of address, there’s not really one proper one so scroll down this post to get the GPS Coordinate that I’ve captured when I was there.

If you ask me, the journey was worth it as the scenery from the restaurant was beautiful. We got ourselves there around 5.30pm after a long day of touring around the Penang Island. Was told that the food was worth the drive there but I am not too sure how true is that cause it doesn’t taste all that great to me. Maybe it’s the landscape that help build the rating up.

After we got ourselves settled down to a table by the edge of the restaurant, orders was made promptly as the travel here made us all hungry. The first dish to arrive to the dining table was the Kerabu Squid. Truthfully, I don’t fancy squid other than the deep fried ones so I didn’t really enjoy this one. Furthermore, this one was laced with chili which is also something I don’t like.

Then came the Thai Spring Roll, crispy and nice, the filling wasn’t packed too much together so it’s easy to the bite. Some places tend to pack so much into such a small compartment that biting into the spring roll becomes tough. For me, this one works.

The Fish Cake came next, another popular dish majority of the patrons seems to order. Came with it’s own spicy condiment for you to dip in but to me, it’s nothing great. It’s just fish cake, how wrong can it get?

Green Curry Chicken was served next, the spiciness of the dish was well controlled and seem to be the group’s favorite one as it was cleaned up within moment after it arrived onto our table.

You can’t say you ate in a Thai restaurant without tom yam and for us, it’s the White Tom Yam Seafood. I would say that this is quite nice, authentic thai styled of preparing the tom yam. Not to say that I’m an expert when it comes to tom yam soup but heck, you go to any of the thai restaurant in town and you get almost the same type of tom yam over and over again. Only way you’d get something like this is when the chef preparing it is Thai. Ate a few times in Thailand and numerous times in Thai restaurants around town and well, to me, there is a difference in the way the soup taste.

And lastly, the dish that we all had to try was the Pucha (Crab), eating this in George town will set you back close to RM10 per piece where as it’s much more cheaper here. I would say this is unique as we don’t normally get this anywhere else and even though the Pucha look small, it does pack a punch in terms of filling. The minced stuffing was packed well together that you’d feel that it’s worth the amount you pay for. We wanted to order more after the 1st round was made but decided against it as we plan to eat some more further up the road (that will be in another posting).

Now for those of you who wants to get there but don’t know how, hopefully this screenshot of my GPS device is helpful to you as I find some of the GPS coordinates that I find online was way off after I keyed those details into the Garmin system.

Would I make a trip to this place again? If I were in Penang and wanted to go somewhere outside of george town minus the traffic and to capture some beautiful sunset, then yes. I would go there again, but if it’s just for food. No, it doesn’t worth the drive there just to eat.
