Standard Chartered’s Little Champions
It’s a Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for children in Asia to be escorts to world-class soccer players at the 2009/2010 UEFA Champions League matches which are watched by hundreds and thousands of people worldwide. This is historic as it’s the first time children from Asia and Middle East have the opportunity to be player escorts at the UEFA Champions League matches

How to kids get involved? Simply by going logging into Standard Chartered’s Singapore Little Champions and Standard Chartered’s Korea Little Champions contest. It’s going to be an exhilarating experience as attest by the 24 lucky children from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, UAE and Korea who were selected by Standard Chartered to be player escorts at the Manchester United FC Vs Bersiktas JK match in Manchester and the AC Milan Vs Marseille match in Milan on 25 Nov 09. Onward to Vientiane!
The Opening ceremony’s about 24 hours away. If you’re seeing this page, that can only mean one thing. I’ve gone to Laos and for the next 2 weeks. I’m going to be there cheering the Malaysian team on, irregardless of how many medals they are bringing back.
An estimate of 300 to 400-member Malaysian contingent is already there getting themselves used to the food, weather and the sports village. 2 games: the Water Polo and Football has already begun.
Chef-de-Mission for Laos, Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz had indicated that the Malaysian contingent would participate in 21 of the 25 sports hosted. I wonder how many medals will the Malaysian team bring back. No matter what, I’m looking forward to seeing our boys and girls do well. Will try to update with details and photos here (if I can find an internet connection to upload them). If I can’t get online, I’ll see you guys and update mikeyip.com in about 2 weeks time. (more…)
FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup 2009
Was at the FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup recently, must say that I have no idea who is who in the swimming world but I’m not there to try and know the people there. Just snap some photos and sharing here.

There’s a lot more photos after the jump. (more…)

Following suit from the Nuffnang Awards, the Bloggers from outside of Singapore was given a tour of the island city to the various parts to soak in the cultural and technological extravaganza. Following are photos from the tour.

Sorry if your photos are not in here as I could only go into the tour with 2 groups and could not join up with the other groups and shoot from there. Hopefully you’d get photos from the various bloggers that is in your group yah. (more…)
Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards Official Photos
The weekend was abuzz with activities as bloggers from Malaysia, Australia and the Philippines gathered in Singapore with the Singaporean bloggers for the biggest blog award ceremony the Asia Pacific region has ever witnessed.

Here’s the first set of some of my fav. moments from the Blog Awards not necessarily from the award itself but also the camwhoring moments. (more…)
Malaysian Bloggers Jumping into the sunset
What do you get when you have a nice sunset in the background and a bunch of bloggers with some time to waste? Blogger’s Jump Photos of course!

These was shot a day after the Nuffnang Awards and it was towards the end of the tour when we decide to take a break and shoot some landscape. The opportunity was there and we being opportunists never gives up a chance if we could. (more…)
The Sultan of Selangor Cup: Singapore vs Selangor
If you’ve been following local football since the good old days when Singapore was still part of the M League and Malaysia Cup series, you’d know how strong the rivalry between Singapore and Selangor is. Each game held at the various stadiums are constantly packed with people.

These days, the only time we see these two teams battle it out is in the Sultan of Selangor Cup games held once a year between the two clubs. 2008 see the Cup going back to Selangor and this year, the Singapore team was quite dominant and the cup goes to Singapore. For Selangor fans, we see it as allowing the Singapore team the thrill of holding it for a year before we take it back. :p (more…)
Red Bull F1 Party @ Sentosa Island
I’ve been bugged to post up photos from this event for quite some time now and since I have some time at the moment, why not post it up and make everyone happy right? It’s the Red Bull F1 Party at Sentosa Island and I’ll just let the photos do all the talking here.
Yam Char Restaurant @ Chinatown, Singapore

This should have been posted long long ago but due to the terrible connections at some of the places I ventured to, it’s hard to do so. Some time back, StrippedSteph and myself ventured to this place in Chinatown, Singapore in search of lunch. She knows how much I love my Dim Sums and how I want to finally be ordering food in Cantonese instead of in my oh-so-wonderfully-crappy mandarin.
The venue of our choice? The Yam Char Restaurant, located in the heart of the Chinatown, about 5minutes slow walk from the MRT station. We got there at about 3pm after checking out some of the shopping complexes in Orchard Road area (Doing the touristy thing) and we were just in time for their High Tea Buffet. At SGD18.80 per person (SGD14.80 for the kids), it’s quite a reasonably priced buffet. (more…)
President Star Charity 2009 and Coco Lee
Had an opportunity to work with the Mediacorp artistes at the just concluded President Star Charity 2009 event that was broadcasted Live on TV. Not sure how many of you caught the show, ain’t familiar with it myself as I’m not familiar with local TV scene. Nevertheless, the experience was fantastic.

The journey started yesterday when I stepped into the studio for the first time for rehearsal and briefing which lasted way way way into the night. (more…)
Up-Close and racing with Sébastien Buemi
Previously, I posted photos of Jaime Alguersuari of Scuderia Toro Rosso, this post is about his team mate, Sébastien Buemi. Also taken at the same location, Sébastien carries himself in a more confident manner throughout the day, even at the Red Bull party (that’ll be another story for another post). So without much needed introduction, here’s some photos taken from that day.
Up-Close and Racing with Jaime Alguersuari
He might not be in the fight for the top spots in Formula 1, but nevertheless, he is one of the 20 that’s lucky enough to race competitively in the Formula 1 race.

Jaime Alguersuari took some time off his busy schedule to meet with Scuderia Toro Rosso fans prior to the Singapore GP and race around a few laps at the Go-Kart circuit to give a teaser to the fans what to expect at the Singapore Night Race 2009. (more…)
Mercedes McLaren F1 Drivers
The whole week, the whole of Singapore was abuzz with F1 activities from the driver meet the fans session to media interviews. One of the team that was busy going all over town attending such functions was the McLaren F1 team. I’m no McLaren fan but who would reject opportunities to meet these drivers face to face right?

The McLaren trip started with Heikki Kovalainen at the Changi Airport for the Johnny Walker function where he met the fans, tell them don’t drink and drive, show everyone how he drives on the racing Simulation before he got ushered off in a hurry by his minders. (more…)
LA Laker’s Jordan Farmar
Those that knew me long enough knows that I’m a huge fan of the LA Lakers, I practically grew up watching the team battle it out day in and day out under Magic Johnson before his tragic retirement due to HIV.

From then, there was a slump in form before Jackson came in as the team coach and brought the franchise back to where it’s supposed to be, the top! Even until now, whenever they play, I’ll just be hooked to the TV watching them battle it out with any teams that steps into the same court with them. (more…)
1 Week to Singapore GP
It’s 1 week to the Formula 1 Race in Singapore. Not sure about you but I’m excited about it. Having been to the one in Sepang, I’d love to experience the race in another country, in this case, it’s Singapore!

I’ve been working like a dawg lately as there’s bills to pay and all that mumbo jumbo but at the moment, I am enjoying what I do. I guess that’s the only way to enjoy work, by doing what we like to do so we don’t complain so much. Right? (more…)
Balestier Bak Kut Teh @ ION Orchard
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love my pork, and one of my fav. pork dishes are the bak kut tehs. Tell me where the best Bak Kut Teh place is located and I’ll try to make it there to give it a try. One such place I was recommended to try out in Singapore is the Balistier Teochew style Bak Kut Teh (pork rib soup) from a famous eatery in Balestier Road. Well, instead of heading over to Balestier Road (I don’t know where that is), Strippedsteph and I went to the one in ION Orchard.

(img from camemberu.com)
We were ushered into the place and got ourselves a nice table to sit on, atmosphere wise, the place is nice and comfortable. Maybe because it’s located in a nice shopping complex like the ION Orchard. Anyway, it took us some time to browse through the menu and since we know what we are going for, we place our orders quickly. One thing I was reminded to do is, leave the Malaysian taste bud at home cause I’ll be overly disappointed if I judge the food based on what I’ve been eating all my life. (more…)
36th Taekwondo National Championship 2009
The following series of photos are shot at the recently concluded TKD National Championship. It’s been awhile since I last went for a competition and it felt great being in an arena packed with young TKD exponents battling it out with one another.

Bring back good ol memories of how crazy it was in college when every free time the few of us have was spend at the Squash court where it was quiet and deserted except for the few love birds hiding in the dark corners making out. Those of you who studied there would definitely know which college i’m talking about. (more…)
Midnight Rugby 10s
Recently, I attended this unique Rugby match that was played from sun down til, well, very late. The name of the event’s known as the Rugby Midnight 10s where as you guess it, teams play rugby at midnight.

It was an interesting concept and was told that this is the 2nd year it was held. The Winning purse is USD11,000 which is ALOT when you convert back to Ringgit Malaysia or Singapore Dollars. Right? As usual, I won’t drown you with loads of text but with loads of photos from the event. (more…)
Marché @ Vivo City
It’s been awhile since I last ate at Marche, it was so long ago that I can’t remember what I ate there but I’m sure the one I had at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara is similar to the one at Vivo City.

It was a nice day when both StrippedSteph and I could spend a nice quiet day together that we decided to head somewhere nice for dinner. The venue of choice? Marché Movenpick Restaurant @ Vivo City. (more…)
The Great Singapore Sale 2009

It’s that time of the year where my baby’s sense of logic goes out the window. Only this time of the year, between the 29th of May to the 26th of July. Everywhere she turn, she see the word BUY BUY BUY flashing before her very eyes. It’s that time of the year where all guys dread and all girls goes crazy for.
It’s Singapore’s most anticipated shopping extravaganza and it is an eight-week “shopathon” to enjoy discounts of up to 70% on just about anything, anywhere. From the central shopping belt of Orchard Road and Marina Bay to the shopping precincts in the heartlands, you’ll find fantastic value on fashion, watches, jewellery, electronics and more. (more…)
Singapore River Fesitval & Nuffnang SG Pajamas Party
This is a photo heavy post…. wait… all my post have loads of photos… oh well… Went with the Nuffnang Singapore Bloggers and the Nuffies on a tour of the Singapore River Festival when I was at Singapore. Quite an interesting adventure walking from Clark Quay to Boat Quay to catch the boat for the boat ride after watching the Aerial Acrobatic performance and the stage play in Clark Quay. It’s quite tiring actually. Here’s some photos from the Singapore River Festival

Marina Bay in the Evening
One of the places I checked out when I’m in Singapore was the Marina Bay area. The very ground where the Singapore GP is held since last year (2008). It’s quite a beautiful area really, looking out at the bay area in the setting sun as all the buildings start to light up. Sadly the sky wasn’t really that clear when I was there but I tried what I can do capture the best image I could with my trusty camera.
Here we can see the high rise buildings along with the famous ‘durian’, the esplanade.

Wing Kee Famous Ipoh Hor Fun @ Changi Village Food Court
Having made my one and only trip to Changi Village, I got the chance to eat the famous Ipoh Hor Fun stall at the Changi Village Food Court. Why I say it was famous? The people that was waiting in line in front of the Wing Kee (Since 1976) stall made me think of it like that.
As I walked into the food court, the one thing that caught my attention was this long line of people in front of the stall compared to the many other stalls in the premise. My friends asked me what I want to eat but even before they asked me, I already made up my mind wanting to give it a try, after all, that stall’s window was plastered with food reviews from the likes of Makan Sutra and many others.

After getting our spots in the place, off I went and got myself in line and within 15minutes or so, it was my turn to order. It was plain simple, just say the number that’s written next to the food photo and that’s it, the gentleman standing in front of me will promptly say the name of the dish and ask for money. The amazing thing is, he say the name of the dish so softly yet the cook behind the window was able to hear him. Even I had a hard time hearing what he said especially in the noisy environment we were in. (more…)
