Restoran Guan Hwat @ Sekinchan
It was a trip up to Sekinchan to do some shoot at the Paddy Field but we ended up doing some food hunt instead as it was close to lunch time. In a village famous for its Paddy Field and fishing village, what better place within Selangor other than Klang for us to go savor some seafood. And if you don’t mind the hour long drive from KL, it’s worth it too as the food here is way cheaper than Klang.

This restaurant is known as Restoran Guan Hwat, located just to the right as you turn into the fishing village. It’s easy to spot with it’s blue colored wall and if you are there by 1pm, packed with people. We were there around noon and the place was already filling up and by the time we left at 1, there was already a line of people waiting to get a seat.

The first dish we ordered was the Stingray prepared in a spicy sauce. The dish was very simple in it’s preparation and what makes this dish pop was the freshness of the Stingray. The meat just melt away from the cartilage with ease making it easy to eat.

The next dish we ordered was the Prawn, cooked in a similar fashion as the stingray, quite fresh as well and it was shelled so we just need to mix it in with rice and munch away without the worry of peeling off the shell. The 3rd and last dish we ordered was the Stir Fried Romaine Lettuce (Yau Mak) with garlic. Somehow this dish is quite bitter, maybe they did not clean the wok thoroughly before preparing this dish as I didn’t quite like it even though this is one of my favorite dish to order in restaurants.

The restaurant’s specialty is actually the Baby Shark meat soup but we opt not to have it as I was against the killing of sharks. It’s great that they actually cook the shark’s meat instead of just taking the fins but still, it is best not to encourage restaurants and fishermen from killing sharks. Sooner or later, this majestic seafaring creature is going to extinct and by then, it’ll be too late to blame anyone.

We had a hard time trying to communicate with the waitress as she was speaking very softly in mandarin and I had a hard time understanding her. That’s also the reason why we ended up ordering just the 3 dishes as I was expecting to eat more. We gave up talking to her after 10minutes trying to get her to speak up and tell us what is her recommendation. Next to this restaurant also is a little stall selling fried yam cakes, fried bananas and a few other type of fried snacks.

The Fried Bananas we brought was quite sweet and on the journey back, we regretted not buying more. There’s many other seafood restaurants in the area and I’ll definitely make a trip back to Sekinchan again to visit the place for food as well as do some more shoots.

Seafood @ Kuai Lok Hian Restaurant in Pulau Ketam
This would be the last post from my Klang Gate Saga but I didn’t review the restaurants in sequence so this one done only now instead of earlier. It’s a 45minute boat ride from Port Klang and you can see it as you walk out of the Pulau Ketam Jetty so it’s hard not miss.

It’s also the largest Seafood restaurant in Pulau Ketam too and the place where we had our lunch after we toured the Pulau Ketam town. On weekends, it’s totally packed, you can make reservations if you worry that you’d not get a table after you tour the fishing village but sometimes, the fun is in the standing by the table giving the people who’s still eating a good stare down telling them to eat faster so that you can have the table. Lunch @ Ipoh Garden East Ocean Seafood Restaurant
It’s been awhile (since Chinese New Year) that the loads of us adults and our bunch of noisy little monsters got together as a family for lunch, and so we head over to Ipoh Garden East Ocean Seafood Restaurant and got ourself into a nice cosy room (so that the lunch hour crowd would not be bombarded by the madness that is in the form of 5 hyper active children) and got ourselves some well deserved food.

This restaurant is sort of my family’s usual eating place when we have the cravings of something more than our usual consumption. Even the staffs there are friendly to us like we’re their long lost friends each time we go, but then in Ipoh, it’s quite a norm that most people will know most people. The 6th Degree of Separation is in full effect here. (more…)
Huge Tree Shaded Weld Quay Seafood
The talking point of this restaurant is the huge tree that this restaurant was build around as well as the use of an abandoned burnt down building as it’s site is another. Of course, the seafood is also important but still, any tourists that walked towards that restaurant would just gawk at the way the place was set-up before ordering any food.

The restaurant is just located opposite Penang Ferry Terminal (Jetty). Although customer is not allow to park their car in front of the stall, there are parking lots available down the corner. A Wide selection of fresh produce is placed before the customers so you can pick and choose what you want to eat, and if you want to stand around, you can watch them prepare and cook the dishes you ordered too. Eating Seafood in Kota Kinabalu with Celebrities
What happens when you have a bunch of hungry guys and girls including the likes of Hannah Tan, Pietro Felix, Harith Iskandar, Hans Isaac wonders what to eat for dinner? Well, wonder no more, these sets of food was from some time back when we were in Kota Kinabalu for a show.

The restaurant we went to is known as the Ocean Seafood Village Restaurant, quite a popular one in Kota Kinabalu and according to some of the locals, one of the most expensive places to eat seafood. We were invited by Fellest and his family to join them for dinner there and how can we just say no to some good seafood dinner? (more…)
