Mari Mari Cultural Village, Sabah

While I was in Kota Kinabalu, I took the opportunity to visit one of the many cultural village in Sabah. Known simply as the Mari Mari Cultural Village, located 30 minutes from Kota Kinabalu. It’s a small Village with 5 houses representing the various orang Asli community or in english, the ethnic communities. This living museum provides us not only with a look at the homes of some of these Sabahan ethnic communities like the Bajau, Lundayeh, Murut, Rungus and Dusun, this place also shows you how these communities used to lived. In fact, some of them are still living just like that even til this day.

The houses at Mari Mari includes the Dusun House, Rungus Longhouse, Lundayeh House, Bajau House and Murut Longhouse. At each of these houses, we get to experience how the communities lived and how they take care of one another. From how the girls of the families are made to stay at the top of the room to what they do to pass their times daily. It made me wonder how it will truly feel to stay there for a week living the way they lived and experience the daily activities they go through. (more…)

Touring Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Early in the year, I decided to take a break from work and go somewhere for a few days. Thanks to Fireflyz (Yes, I got complimentary flight tickets to go there courtesy of FireFlyz), I could pull this off. Told some of the clients that contacted me during that period that I won’t be free and then within a week, planned where I was planning to go and then whoosh! I was off.

One thing about traveling alone was that I can just pack a few stuff and just go off without much consideration, truthfully, I’d prefer to travel with a companion as I’d then get to share what I’m experiencing with another person. Oh well, hopefully I’d find someone who’d love to travel on a budget with me next time around. (more…)
