Food from the Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards

For those of you who didn’t go for the NAPBA, you must be wondering what type of food we had. Whether Nuffnang only fed us Pringles the whole night or there’s other type of food. Well, guess no more. Here’s what we ate. We started off with some plain water and a piece of bread per person.

About 30min into the event, Marinated Smoked Tuna with Feta, Herb Salad and Balsamic Olive Oil was served. (more…)

Malaysian Bloggers Jumping into the sunset

What do you get when you have a nice sunset in the background and a bunch of bloggers with some time to waste? Blogger’s Jump Photos of course!

These was shot a day after the Nuffnang Awards and it was towards the end of the tour when we decide to take a break and shoot some landscape. The opportunity was there and we being opportunists never gives up a chance if we could. (more…)

Portraits: c-0-c-o

From the other day, apart from the Darlie photo you see on Coco’s blog, here’s some of the other shots taken from a day out taking photos. Feel free to comment on the photos, there’s no specific theme to the shots but was more on playing around with the camera, settings and the surroundings.

The photo above was shot using a flat colored background for the studio look while the one at the bottom was shot outside the shopping complex. It’s a bit hard to shoot the 2nd photo as there’s constantly people walking past and stopping to see what’s going on. (more…)

Birds Birds Birds!

A couple of Sundays back, jrhogan and I decide to go and shoot some birds. A very impromptu arrangement that was made not by sms or phone calls but over a chatroom filled with all sort of conversation. Amazing how we could still arrange to do something in a busy chatroom with a very constant and fast flow of messages by each users. Anyway, an arragement we did have and at noon on the sunday, we set off to the location to try and shoot some birds. These are what I caught… through my lens. I will try to name each bird species accordingly but do let me know if I got any one of them wrong.

Singapore River Fesitval & Nuffnang SG Pajamas Party

This is a photo heavy post…. wait… all my post have loads of photos… oh well… Went with the Nuffnang Singapore Bloggers and the Nuffies on a tour of the Singapore River Festival when I was at Singapore. Quite an interesting adventure walking from Clark Quay to Boat Quay to catch the boat for the boat ride after watching the Aerial Acrobatic performance and the stage play in Clark Quay. It’s quite tiring actually. Here’s some photos from the Singapore River Festival

Nuffnangers’ Indecent Exposure

This was planned about 2 weeks back after some on the shoutbox was asking about doing portraiture and so forth and so forth, so with a mass email going out, some suggestions bouncing about and all and next thing we knew, the day arrived where we met at the bus terminal heading to the location of choice to snap some photos.

2008 Round Up

Just that time of the year where I look back at the 10 most memorable (in no particular order) things in 2008 I could remember through blogging. Won’t touch on what happened around me (just what I’ve experienced as a blogger whether it happened to me or around me or something I read and have a good laugh about).

  1. Getting to know StrippedSteph
  2. Nuffnang Parties (Here’s the latest one I went to)
  3. Getting to know many new friends through the world of blogging
  4. Getting inquiries through the blog for my services (which is awesome)
  5. Getting Request to do food reviews by restaurants around the Klang Valley
  6. Got the chance to rub shoulders with Celebrities
  7. Linking up with some old friends from school and college days (Thanks to Google and Facebook)
  8. Xia Xue vs Dawn Yang Saga
  9. The Kenny Sia, ICQ & SamPoh Love/Hate/Sex Triangle (Don’t tell me you didn’t know about it!)
  10. Rediscovering myself which to me is a huge thing.

How was your 2008? Many laughs, joys, gossips, scandals, parties?

Christmas came early thanks to Nuffnang SG

Yup, you see it right. Nuffnang Singapore organized the vPost Nuffnang Christmas party at DXO last night and it was the bomb! With the loudest noise coming from the Malaysian Camp. Yup, we did Malaysia proud, well… I felt that I did. StrippedSteph and I got there by 6, met up with the bunch of Nuffies from Malaysia, catch up on things and then proceed into the venue.

At the Photo Op

Boss Ming, taikor of Nuffnang SG.

Malaysia won the N.U.F.F.N.A.N.G spelling game (where we have to seek out the real Nuffies with the respective alphabets to win) by 3 to 2, it was a close call indeed but WE WON! I believe Malaysia also walked home with the most prizes last night too! (This do sound like I’m trying to create War between Nuffnang Malaysia and Singapore eh?) Even in terms of organized events, Nuffnang Malaysia tops Nuffnang Singapore by 3 events to 1 with the Christmas party being the first one so far. Quoted from Boss Ming “Nuffnang Malaysia might be leading in terms of organized events but Singapore shall not be far and we are looking at over taking that number very soon.” (more…)

MOVIE REVIEW: Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist

Just got back from the premier movie screening of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist  organized by Nuffnang Singapore. The screening was held at The Cathay and as it was a last minute decision, we basically rushed to the cinema to catch the movie with the rest of the Nuffnang Bloggers.

Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, originally a book by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, is now a movie. Nick (Michael Cera), the only straight band member of “The Jerk Offs” has recently been dumped by his hot girlfriend, Tris (Alexis Dziena). Nick believes that he can win her back by sending her special songs on CDs that he has mixed just for her. Nick has sent her about 10 CDs, but Tris only throws them in the trash.

However, Tris’ best friend, Norah (Kat Dennings), has retrieved most of them, and she loves them. Norah has never met Nick, but the music he loves touches her heart. Norah and her friend Caroline are at a nightclub where “The Jerk Offs” are playing, and Norah is attracted to Nick while he is playing his guitar. Tris shows up at the same club with her new boyfriend. Norah doesn’t want Tris to think that she is dateless, so she asks Nick to pretend to be her boyfriend for 5 minutes and gives him a big kiss. Then Tris tells Norah that Nick is her ex-boyfriend. Now that Norah has Nick, the heartless Tris decides that she now wants him back.

A night of searching for the band “Where’s Fluffy” ends up with one of these girls winning Nick’s love. (more…)

Nuffnang’s Silent Halloween Party

Nuffnang’s Silent Halloween Party started off with loads of noise as the bloggers start to trickle in and start to build up. Starting at 6.30pm, the crowd continue to trickle in all the way up til 8pm resulting in the poor nuffies having to sit outside and ensure that all registration was done properly.

Stranger Than Fiction

I went as Harold Crick from Stranger than Fiction (Will Ferrell), it’s the cheapest costume I ever have. All I need is just my working clothes and the tie from Stranger than Fiction. So yeah, I was there as an IRS Agent, and when I put on my ‘Horns’, I became the evil version of Harold Crick, the ‘Horny IRS Agent’ (do some mentalism magic…., I can hear you, reader, I can hear your brain goes…. “this Mike Yip, bloody lame, like that also can…”) . Why this site was started….

Some time back, I posted this and there were some friends that asked me what is it about. Well, For non-Nuffnang bloggers that’s curious about what I wrote, well, basically it’s this, editted abit as it’s posted in here instead of in Nuffnang’s blog.

It all started with the idea of wanting to have a place where I can put down all my thoughts as well as a little collection of what I’ve done in my life as a reference later on in life, also for my clients to flip through. I started with a website, but then I got lazy of updating it because it involves a lot of HTML editing and a lot of loading of FTP program to upload the stuff online. That was way back in 1996.

Appear in Time Magazine? Yah Right!

Appear in Time Magazine? Yah Right!

In 2006, I got myself into this blogging phenomena that was breaking out all over the world using free blog sites available online also for that same purpose, a place to document my journey in my work as well as a gallery of sort the things I do and the images I captured. From then, I figured I’d need something where I can have more control, a place to call my own. That’s how I got mikeyip.com started. (more…)

Featured Blogger?

Logging into the Nuffnang website earlier saw this thing staring back at me.

Nuffnang Blogger of the Month (October)

Click here to read what was written on that site. Anyway, thanks to Robb that I got it made into this month’s edition, only 12 spots a year, a very coverted space that many bloggers are fighting to get a seat on.

One thing for sure after looking at the whole thing is, I need to get a decent photo of myself as soon as I can. I’ve always been taking photos of people but never one of myself (as in just by myself without any other people around me).

Any photographers want to shoot me on a strobist session for free?

I’m Going Silent this Halloween with Nokia XpressMusic

October, one of the most looked forward to event of the month is none other than the Halloween Night! This year, Nuffnang’s going to rock the house down, by going silent, yup. As silent as thing could get on that night, except that in Nuffnang’s case, Silent means nothing when you get a bunch of bloggers together. All hell will break loose! Now that’ll really make Halloween a beautiful day to remember!

Now the catch for this party is, you’d have to bring along your phone and headsets as the whole idea of being ’silent’ is by getting you pumped for the party via your headphones. huh??? Must be some crazy idea by Nokia to get people to tune in to their services. My guess? Via the Bluetooth on the phone? By Nokia giving every single one of the party goers a Nokia phone each (please say it is true so I can throw away my brick phone)? It’ll even be better if Nokia could give me a new phone on that night as a present so I could give it to my mom as her birthday present too! After all, her birthday falls on the 31st of October! Really it’s true!!! Coupled by the fact that I’m a cheapskate of a son (Such a scary thought isn’t it to have me as a son). (more…)

Nuffnang SG Gathering & Surprise Advance B’day Celebration

The Venue

20th September – with 5 Malaysian and 1 1/2 Malaysian, it was a small gathering of Malaysian Nuffnang bloggers in Singapore, well… not really. There was 15 of us that night so you can do the maths and know how many Singaporean Bloggers are there too. The youngest ones being 14 years young. I remember at that age, my mummy would have told me to stay home at night and don’t go out late. LOL

The bloggers – Singaporeans and Malaysians collide

Anyway, it was fantastic to meet up with these bloggers and they even have a surprise for me, a very advance one (2 weeks ahead of the actual date - OCTOBER 6). I knew something was amidst when StrippedSteph and Nuffy-Cherie was whispering away and then BossMing comes up to me and ask me whether I was my birthday. I was like… “eh….. there’s someting fishy going on here…… why Ming suddenly pop this type of question wan? When knowing well we’re here for a small gathering of bloggers from Malaysia and Singapore.” (more…)

Pan Mee @ Super Kitchen

Friday morning, received a message from Yat inviting me to join him and his gang for lunch at Super Kitchen, and as I’ve not been there before (I always go to Kin Kin across the road), I decide to go ahead and head down there.

After a couple of ding dong messages over Innit’s Chat Box and found out that KY had to travel back to his home in PJ, I decide to meet up with him to travel down to Chow Kit to meet up with Yat and his gang (start to sound like a big time Gangster eh?).

Mamma Mia! The Movie

This is one of the upcoming movie that I’m lookin forward to, ain’t because it’s a romantic comedy but because of the songs by ABBA.

Yeah I know, I’m from the time where ABBA music was still a huge hit. All the way until like the early 90s in a way.

Before it was turned into a movie, it’s the blockbuster stage musical seen by more than 30 million people in 170 cities and eight different languages. I’m a big theater person so definitely would love to see how they would turn a musical like this into a movie. I’ve been dissappointed by some musical turned movies before this so now, let’s see this one and see how it works out.

OK, the truth is, this is a contest by Nuffnang to watch the movie. So do I get the two tickets?

Nuffnang is proud to hold a simultaneous Premiere Screenings of Mamma Mia! The Movie in two locations! Please find the details of the Premiere Screenings for Mamma Mia! The Movie as followed;

Date : 22nd of September 2008 (Monday)

Dinner with the Nuffies

It’s just one of those days where I was lazy to cook and there’s no food testing to attend, so what do we do on such a day? Check with people we know and see who want to go for grab some dinner. Right?

i asked for “LOU FU!” (Tiger) and they gave me this instead. :(

I did just that last night after I came back from a long meeting feeling hungry and found no food at home. Got myself seated in front of the TV and went about online asking who’d like to go for a quick bite.

The Nuffnang Counter-Strike Team stocking up before their big training

Timothy of Nuffnang heard my hunger cry and invited me to join him and the other Nuffies for dinner and that’s how I landed myself at Restaurant Long Fong in Taman Paramount. It’s also a sort of a dinner to welcome the new staff that joined Nuffnang, Miss Pinky…. (wonder if she’d post juicy gossips from the Nuffnang office on her blog…)

So is Pinky the cheerleader for the Nuffnang Team?

Anyway, Yee Hou and Nick arrived first and we placed the order with the waitress before the rest of the people showed up. What We had for dinner includes…. a Roast duck, 2 type of noodles, 1 vegetable and 1 Guinness Pork Ribs. Where’s the freaking photos of the food? I wasn’t happy with the photos that I took so ain’t going to post any up. Anyway, thanks guys for letting me join you all for dinner. For all you people who’s participating in the CS competition… watch out for these guys…. they are good… Just need to get their teamwork brushed up and “FIRE IN THE HOLE!”

Journey To The Center of the Earth 3D

Movie Review with a bunch of Nuffnangers (Robb and Nick from Nuffnang, StrippedSteph, Minli and Frankie) for the movie Journey To The Center of the Earth 3D.

The movie’s about a science professor whose radical theories have completely tarnished his reputation. While backpacking across Iceland with his nephew Sean, the two explorers find a cave that leads them deep down into the bowels of the planet. And so they go on a quest to find out what has happened to the scientist’s missing brother, a scientist, his nephew and their mountain guide discovers a fantastic and dangerous lost world in the center of the earth. There they discover a bizarre landscape filled with terrifying creatures.

The movie is worth the wait and with the 3D experience, it brought a whole new movie experience to the audience. Go watch it! At some point, you’d want to reach out your own hands and see if you’d be able to catch any of the birds or the falling rocks as you fall together with the stars. That’s how well they create the 3D experience.

How we look with the 3D Specs

We were told this is the first digital movie to be fully shot in 3D and the experience is just incredible! Midvalley’s GSC is the only cinema as far as GSC is concern to provide the audience with the 3D experience, the other cinemas will feature the movie in the the normal 2D format but nevertheless, it’ll still be nice. If you want to experience the 3D features, then you should check out the Hall 4 of Midvalley’s GSC. At RM17 per ticket, it’s still worth the money paid.

Top: Digital Projector | Bottom: Conventional Film Projector

We can’t take home the 3D specs though or it’ll be a RM200 fine. I wonder if the old paper version we get at the normal 3D cinemas works with this movie or not. After all, it’s still 3D right? Shall give it a try next time round.

The Dolby 3D Specs

After the movie, we were taken on a tour to the projector room to show us how the whole system works and looking at it, the conventional film projector’s way bigger and more complex looking compared to the digital projector. And with everything stored on HDD, it also became a big space saver too!

The movie’s stored here!

If you’ve always been wondering how the projector room of a cinema looks like, well, this is how it looks. Simple place with not much more than projectors and reels after reels of film being ran through each projectors. So this is how they did it!

Hancock Screening

Thanks to the people at Nuffnang, last night, went to watch the screening of HANCOCK at Cineleisure Damansara.

Hancock is a superhero film directed by Peter Berg and starring Will Smith, Jason Bateman, and Charlize Theron. John Hancock (Will Smith) is an unhappy and reluctant superhero who is living in his own world. For some unknown reason, Hancock is depressed and has started drinking very heavily. He has saved many lives in Los Angles over the years, but in doing so, he has no regards for damaging buildings, trains, roads, cars, or anything that gets in his way to get the job done. The last time he captured several criminals, it cost the city $9 million to fix the damages. The public has had enough of Hancock, and they want him to stop or go to another city. Then one day, Hancock saves the life of Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) from being run over by a train. Ray is a Public Relations executive who now can go home to his wife and child, because Hancock was there. Ray owes Hancock his life, and he makes it his mission to change his superhero’s image and have the public cheering him.

Thanks to Nuffnang as well, walked away with a nice little goodie bag containing the following at the movie too!

Here’s my little rendition of being Hancock … what you think? BWAHAHAHA

My fav. quote from the movie:

Pissed Fat Guy: You know? Somebody should sue you!
Hancock: You know what? You should sue McDonalds, cuz they fucked you up!
