Sushi @ Omitsu Koshi

This Japanese restaurant in Damansara Jaya has been around for as long as I can remember. From the time I first moved into Damansara Jaya back in 1990 until we moved out back in 2003. Having used to always chill at Atria in my school days, it is 1 of the restaurants I’d walk past on the way home (since it’s located opposite Atria Shopping Center’s KFC outlet) and I’ve always wondered about the food they served there.

So after so long, having been to quite a few Japanese restaurants in and around town. I’d say this would be my first time there now that I’ve moved out of the area. Quite funny how we would seldom visit the restaurants nearest to home but instead travel to a further distance for food. The first sushi dish I ordered was the
Salmon Sushi
and according to some friends I was there with, this was the first time they see the restaurant serving such a big piece of salmon to their customers. (more…)

Ishin Japanese Dining

Quite sometime back, I went on a food trail with a bunch of foodies to ISHIN located in Old Klang Road. The Restaurant came highly recommended when it comes to Japanese food within the Klang Valley and so I figured why not give it a try? I might not be a Japanese food Connoisseur but I do like my japanese food whenever I get the chance to eat it.

The restaurant is a stand-alone double-storey building located in Old Klang Road on the left side if you’re driving from the direction of Midvalley/Federal Highway towards Old Klang Road with it’s own parking space available for it’s patrons. The interior is quite cozy with the upstairs catering more towards large group/families while the ground floor is catered to individuals or couples. There’s a bar area where you can watch the chefs prepare the sushi as you ordered them so for those of you who want to watch their meal made fresh before devouring, that’s the place to seat. (more…)

Shogun @ 1Utama

@imTheJessicat invited me to join her for lunch some time back at Shogun as I had a sudden craving for sushi and some form of Japanese food. So I figured, why not since I’ve not eaten there before and it’s buffet style. Should be quite ok knowing that sushi is one of the type of food that needs to be fresh when served.

In terms of choices, there’s quite a selection available at the Shogun from the sushi base to the udons and fried stuff so at first look without taking a bite on the food they sell, I’m quite delighted. Got myself a place to seat and off we go to find the dishes of our choices.

I started my meal with the cold dish, the sushi, as I saw the chef prepared them and lay them out. I supposed it’s going to be fresh and nice. Well, the fish isn’t really the freshest in the world and the rice was packed way too solid during preparation. Maybe he’s new, you know these days you can have a restaurant that serves Japanese food and the ones preparing the food is bangla or indonesians or myanmar citizens. Which surprisingly happens mostly in Malaysia. MALAYSIA BOLEH!

Then I went for the cooked stuff but I must say, maybe it’s the restaurant but the dishes are so cold that it’s solid and hard to chew. I’m not here trying to give them a hard time, I’m just stating what I ate and what I think about the food I picked.

There’s also dim sums and desserts that you can take but these are mostly manufactured and prepacked stuff instead of the made there and then to serve fresh type. You can roughly know whether they uses the same supplier as some other dim sum outlets with the bite of the dim sum.

The one dessert that didn’t go wrong was the ice cream.I guess it’ll be a great shocker if even the ice cream was bad. Really don’t know how that could happen unless they serve expired ice cream. Out of curiosity, is there really any way to find out whether an Ice Cream is bad or not?

If you ask me whether I’d go back there again to eat, I can definitely tell you that I won’t. Not when there’s so many other Japanese restaurant in 1Utama that serves better sushi or cooked dishes than them.

Mr. Curry @ The Central, Clarke Quay

On one of my previous trip to Clarke Quay, quite some months back, a friend took me to this restaurant in Clarke Quay known simply as Mr. Curry. With a big cute japanese cat mascot adorning it’s entrance on the 3rd floor of The Central. The specialty of this restaurant is Curry, from the type that is non spicy to the really spicy ones.

The restaurant looks cozy with the design looking like those kitchen out of a manga/anime series. Nicely spaced seatings also allowed the customers to settle down comfortably for dinner. We got there about 6ish and by 7.30pm, there was a line outside waiting to get into the restaurant. Here’s something I don’t understand about Singaporeans going out to eat. If there’s a huge line at the restaurant, why can’t they move on to another restaurant to eat instead of lining up for up to an hour if needed just to eat at that restaurant? (more…)
