Kam Ling Restaurant @ Kampar
One of the biggest restaurant in Kampar is located in the older part of Kampar and it has since grown since many years ago, from a tiny restaurant til now taking up to 5 shop lots with 1 part selling the dim sum and catering to the locals while there’s the ‘ballroom’ size that caters more towards the tourists, weddings and big crowds. You can see from the picture the older restaurant and the bigger newer units.

It’s been quite a while since we last ate at this restaurant and decide to head there for lunch. We came from the cemetery after some prayer session at my family’s grave so we also brought along some roast pork which they took and cook. Simple preparation with some dark soy sauce, garlic and some sugar which we cook every now and then at home too. (more…)
Lunch @ Ipoh Garden East Ocean Seafood Restaurant
It’s been awhile (since Chinese New Year) that the loads of us adults and our bunch of noisy little monsters got together as a family for lunch, and so we head over to Ipoh Garden East Ocean Seafood Restaurant and got ourself into a nice cosy room (so that the lunch hour crowd would not be bombarded by the madness that is in the form of 5 hyper active children) and got ourselves some well deserved food.

This restaurant is sort of my family’s usual eating place when we have the cravings of something more than our usual consumption. Even the staffs there are friendly to us like we’re their long lost friends each time we go, but then in Ipoh, it’s quite a norm that most people will know most people. The 6th Degree of Separation is in full effect here. (more…)
Chinese New Year 2010 Celebration
The 2010′s Chinese New Year was slightly different compared to the previous few years. Different cause this would be the 1st year I am able to celebrate Chinese New Year with my kids and it’s also the year I have to rush between work, short holiday and work.

Even on the 1st day of the New Year, I had to spend a bit of time to do some work. It’s all good at the end anyway as we still manage to go through the customary visits to my Grandmother’s home in Gunung Rapat, lunch at my uncle’s place followed by more visitation to other relative’s place before completing the 1st day with a steamboat dinner with family and friends. Oh yeah, the mahjong and black jack session helps too. (more…)
Wing Kee Famous Ipoh Hor Fun @ Changi Village Food Court
Having made my one and only trip to Changi Village, I got the chance to eat the famous Ipoh Hor Fun stall at the Changi Village Food Court. Why I say it was famous? The people that was waiting in line in front of the Wing Kee (Since 1976) stall made me think of it like that.
As I walked into the food court, the one thing that caught my attention was this long line of people in front of the stall compared to the many other stalls in the premise. My friends asked me what I want to eat but even before they asked me, I already made up my mind wanting to give it a try, after all, that stall’s window was plastered with food reviews from the likes of Makan Sutra and many others.

After getting our spots in the place, off I went and got myself in line and within 15minutes or so, it was my turn to order. It was plain simple, just say the number that’s written next to the food photo and that’s it, the gentleman standing in front of me will promptly say the name of the dish and ask for money. The amazing thing is, he say the name of the dish so softly yet the cook behind the window was able to hear him. Even I had a hard time hearing what he said especially in the noisy environment we were in. (more…)
Kampar and Yau Jar Kwai
2 weeks back, I headed back to Kampar for Ching Ming. It’s a time for family and paying respect to the ancestors. It was also one of the few times I get to go around Kampar town meeting up with some old family friends and relatives as well as checking out some of my old hang outs.

Since the establishment of UTAR in Kampar, the town has gone through some huge changes, new houses and shops sprouting all over like mushrooms. The town itself start to be more quiet too compared to before as more and more people are moving towards the new area nearer to UTAR. (more…)
