Restoran Guan Hwat @ Sekinchan
It was a trip up to Sekinchan to do some shoot at the Paddy Field but we ended up doing some food hunt instead as it was close to lunch time. In a village famous for its Paddy Field and fishing village, what better place within Selangor other than Klang for us to go savor some seafood. And if you don’t mind the hour long drive from KL, it’s worth it too as the food here is way cheaper than Klang.
This restaurant is known as Restoran Guan Hwat, located just to the right as you turn into the fishing village. It’s easy to spot with it’s blue colored wall and if you are there by 1pm, packed with people. We were there around noon and the place was already filling up and by the time we left at 1, there was already a line of people waiting to get a seat.
The first dish we ordered was the Stingray prepared in a spicy sauce. The dish was very simple in it’s preparation and what makes this dish pop was the freshness of the Stingray. The meat just melt away from the cartilage with ease making it easy to eat.
The next dish we ordered was the Prawn, cooked in a similar fashion as the stingray, quite fresh as well and it was shelled so we just need to mix it in with rice and munch away without the worry of peeling off the shell. The 3rd and last dish we ordered was the Stir Fried Romaine Lettuce (Yau Mak) with garlic. Somehow this dish is quite bitter, maybe they did not clean the wok thoroughly before preparing this dish as I didn’t quite like it even though this is one of my favorite dish to order in restaurants.
The restaurant’s specialty is actually the Baby Shark meat soup but we opt not to have it as I was against the killing of sharks. It’s great that they actually cook the shark’s meat instead of just taking the fins but still, it is best not to encourage restaurants and fishermen from killing sharks. Sooner or later, this majestic seafaring creature is going to extinct and by then, it’ll be too late to blame anyone.
We had a hard time trying to communicate with the waitress as she was speaking very softly in mandarin and I had a hard time understanding her. That’s also the reason why we ended up ordering just the 3 dishes as I was expecting to eat more. We gave up talking to her after 10minutes trying to get her to speak up and tell us what is her recommendation. Next to this restaurant also is a little stall selling fried yam cakes, fried bananas and a few other type of fried snacks.
The Fried Bananas we brought was quite sweet and on the journey back, we regretted not buying more. There’s many other seafood restaurants in the area and I’ll definitely make a trip back to Sekinchan again to visit the place for food as well as do some more shoots.

The whole thing was done tongue-in-cheek so don’t get too excited about it. As explained to some of the bloggers, in the industry I work in, it’s easy to just splice a few visuals together and create something out of nothing. This … is my example of how a few clips shot at different moments with different incidents can be used together to create something like this.
