The Indon, The Bangla & The Malaysian
An Indonesian, a Bangladeshi and a Malaysian Chinese are in a bar celebrating the 2010 New Year having a beer. The Indonesian finishes his beer and suddenly throws his glass in the air, pulls out a gun and shoots the glass to pieces.
He brags, “In Jakarta our glasses are so cheap that we don’t need to drink from the same one twice.”
The Bangladeshi is obviously impressed. When he finished his beer, he throws his glass into the air, pulls out his gun and shoots the glass to pieces.
He says, “In Dhaka we have so much sand to make the glasses that we don’t need to drink out of the same glass twice either.”
The Malaysian, cool as a cucumber, finishes his drink, throws his glass into the air, pulls out his gun and shoots the Indonesian and the Bangladeshi.
He says “Tiu Nia Ma! In KL we have so many Indons and Banglas that we don’t need to drink with the same ones twice.”

Restoran SumYi @ Kota Damansara
The area this restaurant is located at are quite new, located near the factory lots between Kota Damansara and the exit to the new highway that connects Shah Alam with Sg. Buloh. This restaurant’s located right next to another chinese restaurant called Restoran Lan Jeh which somehow have a lot of people going to. Food wise, that restaurant’s choice and style are quite limited. But that’s up for another post.

I don’t really know the names of all the dishes that was ordered cause the order was placed fast and quick in cantonese in names I’ve not heard of but the food served was the usual ones we see our parents cooked or eat elsewhere. One thing for sure, the cook at this restaurant know what he’s doing and the food are quite well prepared. (more…)
The Chinese Opium Pipe
An opium pipe is a pipe designed for the vaporization and inhalation of opium. True opium pipes allow for the drug to be vaporized while being heated over a special oil lamp known as an opium lamp. It is thought that this manner of “smoking” opium began in the seventeenth century when a special pipe was developed that vaporized opium instead of burning it.

The controversy of the Opium Wars and the subsequent British opium trade with China is still widely remembered today. What has been forgotten is that by the time the trade was banished, and opium smoking began to be effectively eradicated in China, it had already become an integral part of Qing dynasty culture, indulged in at every level of Chinese society – from the lowliest rickshaw pullers to the court eunuchs within the luxurious chambers of old Peking’s Forbidden City. And to satisfy the sophisticated tastes of China’s noble, mandarin, and merchant classes, the paraphernalia and ritual of opium smoking reached dizzying artistic heights. Opium pipes, opium lamps and other accoutrements were crafted from the finest materials – ivory, jade, silver, cloisonné and porcelain. (more…)
Braised Pork and Potatoes
I don’t really know the exact name of this dish, some sites online called it Red Cooking Pork and Potatoes, some called it Braised Pork and Potatoes. For me, I call it one of my favorite dish. This is a traditional chinese dish, a stew that is very simple to prepare.

Ingredients:
- 3 strips of Pork loins, cut to cubes
- 4 Potatoes, chopped to cubes
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons of thick Soy Sauce (do keep this around as you might need to add in a tad more if it’s not to taste yet)
- 2 tablespoons of light Soy Sauce (do keep this around as you might need to add in a tad more if it’s not to taste yet)
- 2 pieces of garlic
- 1 red onion, sliced to 8 pieces
