Adding the Google+ into your Blog
I’m sure some of you would have taken notice that some blogs start to spot the Google +1 icon in their posts. You can head over to Google’s +1 Generator page to create one easily for yourself and simply follow the instruction to cut and paste into your blog.

+1 helps people discover relevant content – a website, a Google search result, or an ad—from the people they already know and trust. Adding the +1 button to your pages lets users recommend your content, knowing that their friends and contacts will see their recommendation when it’s most relevant—in the context of Google search results. When a signed-in Google user is searching, your Google search result snippet may be annotated with the names of the user’s connections who’ve +1′d your page. If none of a user’s connections has +1′d your page, your snippet may display the aggregate number of +1′s your page has received. Now for those of you who want to mess around with the codes of your blog, you can do the manual insertion of the code into your page through this example. (more…)
MANifesto.my – Social Media Campaign for Women:100
On the 23rd of Feb, Tandemic along with Kakiseni launched MANifesto.my along with the various social media platform like facebook, twitter and blogs to create a network of supportive individuals and organizations in celebrating women and uniting their voices through performing arts.

At the launch in Actor’s Studio, the organizers encourage everyone to sign on the MANifesto both online and on the board to pledge their support in making this campaign a success in conjunction with the 100 years of International Women’s Day.
Along with the celebration, Women:100 have a wider goal of empowering women to create, dream and operate beyond the bounds of the status quo.The International Women’s Day on the 8th of March is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. Formally launched in 1911, it has since grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike.

The MANifesto comes into play as a set of seven commitments for men towards making Malaysia a better place for women. Each commitment is paired with a fun and interesting challenge relating to women’s issues. Designed to engender interest in and healthy debate of women’s issues, the MANifesto addresses points ranging from encouraging women to have more confidence and appreciation of themselves, voice their views to taking a stand against violence against women.

Along with the launch, there was also a stage performance: Life Sdn Bhd 6: Abuse where various individuals share some of their true live stories. Voiced by those who know best because they are closest to it. Life Sdn Bhd 6: Abuse is a thought-provoking and moving installment brought to you by Faridah. It will also feature a specially-commissioned song by singer-songwriter Ian Chow entitled Lullaby.

The New Look of MIKEYIP.COM
Since mikeyip.com was born in 2007 when it started off with the basic WordPress template, it has gone through approx. 4 changes to it’s look with 1 looking like this where some of my photos was showcased at the top while everything else is just your usual blog but it is quite troublesome whenever I want to update the 3 images at the top of the site.

Back in 2010, I put this site through another revamp and it started to look like this image below where through a simple java script, I get the header to rotate like a gallery featuring 6 of my latest work and I could easily change the images just by replacing the files on the server. It feels much more smoother and professional in a certain manner but it wasn’t enough…

Something was lacking from it all and it was early January when I sat down with a few friends and started talking about my own site. They say it was high time for my site to be much more than just a blog as I actually use it as a promotional tool as well for my ‘business’ and this was further reinforced by some emails I received from fellow photographers from US and England. So a week of slouching in front of the computer staring at all the codes and stuff like that along with my designer. I hope that this could be it! It’s 2011, Feb 1st and I would like to say mikeyip.com is READY for it’s next phase in life! There’s still a few bugs here and there but that could be worked out slowly while the major component is all up and running.
What do you think? I’ve separated my site into several categories through the navigation. With easy access to my portfolio, a normal blog and another just for Travel and Food related stuff as I’ve been bugged for some time to set up a dedicated one just for my travel and food related postings (and I know if I set up another blog outside of this, it won’t get updated that often… case in point is zique.org).
There’s also a contact form for clients and advertisers to reach me, it is still buggy but I hope the form would be fixed before Chinese New Year. With the year of the Metal Rabbit just 2 days away, here it is. The NEW mikeyip.com! Feel free to browse around and let me know what you think by commenting in my post.
My View on Internet Filtration by M’sia’s Government
I must say that the recent bashing our dear YB Rais Yatim is getting from the Internet community is surely giving his old body a few bruises here and there. If you’ve no idea what I’m talking about, I’m talking about the Internet filtration that the Government is mulling over. Yes, it’s similar to China’s abandoned “Green Dam” project, but then, we also have to look at it in the bigger picture.
Am I siding his decision? I would say no, what for? You can’t get into your favorite porn sites? Go through one of those proxy sites you could access to (I’ll post several links at the bottom of this post for you to use). You can’t access your favorite anti-establishment websites like RPK’s Malaysia-Today site/blog/portal because it’s bashing the government left right and center? Go ahead, use the proxy servers. After all, the government forgot that they even pen down the thing about No Censorship to the Internet, so why not, we as Internet users also go about working around the censorship? (more…)
Analytics360 on WordPress
Just installed the Analytics360 plugin into my WordPress and all I can say is, It’s AWESOME! I’m not sure about you but I do find it a chore to check my Google Analytics on Google but with this plugin, that problem is solved. If you’re a MailChimp user, this also works for you as well. By pulling data directly into the dashboard, I basically am accessing the robust analytics tools without leaving WordPress.

An overview of what it could do according to the WordPress Plugin Directory (more…)
