When was the last time you step into your old primary school? Since the day you finish your standard 6 and then get shipped off to the secondary school of your parent’s choice. Have you ever gone back to your old primary school to visit the place again?

(the building on the right wasn’t there when I was studying there)

I remembered the last time I stepped into SRK Sri Damai and walk about was like way back in 1989, a year after I left the school. For whatever reason? I’ve totally forgotten about it now. Another thing that came to me is the fact that heck, after all this year, I could still remember the school song! It starts something like “Cekal Rajin dan Jaya, itulah cogan kita…”. Could you still remember your school song?

(the field where I was made to run about training for Rugby, football and Track & Fields)

Anyway, with Restaurant Choon Yien just next to the school, I do go past the primary school a lot whenever I go there to get my chicken rice and char siew fix. On my recent trip there, I decide to stop over and just take a stroll in the school and have a look at the changes that has happened since I left the place.

(the entrance to the school, all those shaded area wasn’t there when I was studying there!)

Let’s see what has changed since I left the school, well, there’s now a guard house at the gate that was never there when I was studying there. There’s that new block that wasn’t there when I was studying there. There’s also 2 new building that houses the pre-schoolers and a computer lab. The sports field was alot smaller now compared to my time (man I sound old). And there’s so many shaded areas now that I feel the children studying there look so over-pampered.

(I like to eat here…)

The surrounding area as a whole still didn’t change much though, the flat that I used to hang out in is still there and now houses two restaurants that I frequent (when budget allows it) but the people who stays there are still generally the same type of people.

(The surrounding flats never changed much)

Generally the place still is as it was when I used to study there. With more time on hand the next time, I shall try and capture more photos of this school and it’s surrounding. But for now, let me ask you this. When’s the last time you’ve stepped into your old primary school since you graduated from it? Has it changed much since then? Come share. :D

SRK Sri Damai opened its doors in 1980, there were only 2 Year Darjahs then i.e. Darjah 1 and Darjah 2. Each darjah had 4 classes i.e. Cempaka, Anggerik, Dahlia and Mawar. I started in Darjah Dua Cempaka (transferred in from Kampong Tunku. The top students then were Lai Lee Sar, Chung Tsung Pai and Herman Chua ….. anyone knowing this will know that this is the pioneer times of Sri Damai. Lastly I loved my school days then in Sri Damai, enjoyed the very first sports day (I won a medal for sack running and 1 more silver for team event passing the ball through the hoop), the very first canteen day (I sold fisball made by my mom at 20sens for 3 balls) and loved the days when the Vitagen van and National milk van came to sell at the school…..beset regards, Ng Ka Meng (nickname kambing then hahaha)….I am now working in Dubai
