Sri Kamala Vilas Restaurant @ Little India, Singapore

While I was in Singapore, I met up with Nicolepoopoo and she wanted to try indian food for dinner. As I wasn’t familiar with Little India area, we decide to do a search on the computer for a restaurant to go to. The restaurant of choice? Sri Kamala Vilas Restaurant, which is practically everywhere we go.

There’s a total of 2 outlets we stumbled upon and 1 fast food chain within that small stretch of road. I wonder if they are all of the same ownership or is different owners trying to tap on the popularity of the name to bring in the business? After we got our seats, we were given the menu to choose from. And so we made our choices and while waiting for the main courses to come, we were served the Medhu Bonda, a type of delicacy from india which I’ve no idea what to make of. It’s nice to the bite but I can’t seem to place the taste of it.

As for drinks, we ordered the Mango Lassi, the taste was slightly different from the way it tasted in KL and I didn’t really like it. After I finished the drink, I felt like puking. Maybe because I have sensitive stomach.

Nicole ordered the Plain Uthappam which is basically a Plain Rice Pancake. I didn’t get to taste it so I’ve no idea how it tasted like but it looked delicious and she finished it quite fast.

As for me, I ordered the Rice Set which if ordered in Malaysia, is basically your typical Banana Leaf rice with the usual side dishes along with white rice and papadum and a small bowl of sambar, which I was also told is the right term to use as dhal is actually the ingredient used to make the sambar. But us Malaysians are so used to using the term Dhal each time we want to get that particular type of curry instead of the curry chicken or the fish curry. Something new I got to learn in this trip.

All in all, the food served is quite unique that it was prepared the very traditional way the indians make it and unlike the “modified” style of preparation that we are so accustomed to in Malaysia. Would go around exploring other indian restaurants around Little India if I were to stay in that area again on my next trip down to Singapore.
