Setting Sun Over Port Dickson
Another landscape series from me, this was shot at Port Dickson near the Yacht Club against a hazy backdrop. As you know, lately the west coast of Malaysia has been enveloped by a layer of haze, it’s nothing new of course since Indonesia, our oh so friendly neighbor like to burn things in the open and fan it our way.

How come none of our enforcement officers are issuing them with any summons when they are so diligently issuing summons for even the most minute of offenses? Isn’t open burning an offense?

The following are all HDR shots. Converted from a single RAW file. What do you think?

Do feel free to comment on the photos, it’s always good to know what people think of my work.

If you crop the 2nd last picture a bit you’ll get the pyramid shot.
Yes Sifu … I shall improve my composition at the next attempt.
Really nice shots Michael!
How did you get all those colours? Saturate them?
By the way, what’s HDR?
HDR is the short for High dynamic range imaging, basically using a program that I had to bring out all those colors that we can’t really see on the normal photo. I’m no expert so I can’t explain more on it. Best place to refer is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging
According to Wiki: In image processing, computer graphics, and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI or just HDR) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of luminances between light and dark areas of a scene than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows.
nice series… IMHO, i think single file RAW conversion has less umph compare to the normal 3 diff exposure files. Anyway nice shot there, the last pic seems to be a lil too soft…
I like the first shot. The last 3 shots seems blur.
@Henry: Agreed, at that time, wasn’t really thinking bout doing HDR so didn’t go for my usual bracketing, it was only after I got home and look at the photos before I decide to try them on HDR.
@Nicholas: I think it got blurred due to conversion, realized quite a number of my single shot HDRs all turned out blur.
Its’ stunning! I like the second picture best! Do post more pictures!
i loved the last two pictures actually
and the second one .
Wah Michael, Cantikkkkkkkkkk man! Nice shots. You also HDR kaki arr?
more great shots by you again, mike! =)
seriously i wonder when you can get your ass back here in malaysia and bring me go shoot with you lol
@jrhogan: just learning only.. play here and there to experiment
@CWKen: LOL, thanks, but seriously, i’m just learning only, there’s alot of great photog out there in malaysia that I also want to learn from.
Nice pictures! I love all of them
@Fumoffu: tQ
Nice shots…I didn’t see any of the scenes here in Port Dickson. I shall explore Jalan Pantai when I go next time. Cheers!
@Huai Bin: It was just slightly further down from where you were staying only. There’s actually more nicer spots in Port Dickson, it’s just a matter of whether we want to explore those parts or not.
haha at least you know more than me now :p sumore your photos got in for vote at the DCM. Seems like you’re back home, bring me go shoot? XD
LOL… me ish noob. I dun dare to organize anything, buat malu only.
i’m no expert but i must say i really love the very first picture. the way the sun reflects off the water, it’s simply spectacular. not a big fan of the HDR shots though, and i speak of HDR in general, mainly because it comes across looking extremely unnatural. having said that, i quite like the last picture, despite it’s softness. very dreamy sort of look
@Shal: thanks
Not everyone’s into HDR, like you said, the effect from the photo just is too unreal for most people to accept
