Setting Sun over Mekong River
The 1st set documenting my holiday in Vientiane, Laos. I am not touching on the places I’ve visited for now but share with you some of the beautiful sun sets I’ve seen along the Mekong River on the 4 nights I was there traveling.

At certain parts of the river, the Mekong was so dried up that we can practically walk on the river bed and that is exactly what I did. The locals have made some small path that allowed them to go down to the riverbed to play and that’s exactly what I did as well after finding such a path. Getting the sunset from a high ground was nice but being in the middle of the river and getting closer to the beauty of it was just breath taking.

The river can get so dried up at certain parts that the Lao people and the Thai uses it to cross into each other’s territory. I did so on one of the trip down to the river bed but not wanting to get into trouble (as I’m just a tourist), I didn’t hang around long in Thailand. Somewhere in the middle, the fishermen also left some of their cages around. Either it was left there for storage or the cage could have landed together in one spot. Either way, it still provide me with an area to capture some photos.

Further up north (about 30km from Vientiane) near the Friendship bridge, I was also able to witness the beauty of the setting sun with the Friendship Bridge in it’s foreground. I would never have stumbled across this sight if I weren’t on my way to the Buddha Park and hang around there til evening.

The last evening I was there, saw this beautiful image when I stumbled upon this sampan (well, I tried to imagine the beautiful image) and tried to recreate what I am trying to express through this HDR. Hopefully it works.

I know it sound weird that I went around looking for Sunsets to photograph and travelers going there will understand why when you see it at that particular moment. I’ve heard some lady travelers that followed me down to the river bed saying “Oh the sight is just so romantic.” while all I heard from their male travelers was “CLICK CLICK CLICK”. If you’d like to catch the setting sun while drinking a few cans of Beer Lao and enjoying some nice meal, I’ll point out some place you can go to along the Mekong river in the next posting. Til then. Hope you enjoy the photos, do feel free to comment on them.
