On Saturday, with the Chinese New Year mood still lingering in the air, MABA stadium was filled with supporters of the Malaysia Dragons as they took on the Saigon Heat. I was there too hanging out with the Dragons at the Court Side and tried to capture some shots from the game with my trusty camera.
Prior to the match, there was the Dragon Dance since it’s still Chinese New Year and fitting as it’s the year of the Dragon as well. Will it also be the year for Malaysia Dragons to spread its wings and fly? Too early in the season to determine but heck, it’s Dragons all the way!
There’s also a donation to the children of Rumah Sayangan too! AirAsia ABL’s CEO, Mr. Kuhan Foo presented the home with a portable basketball hoop and a Molten basketball. Mini XBaller basketballs and Chinese New Year ‘Ang Pows’ were also handed to the kids of Rumah Sayangan.
It took some time for the match to get going especially with all the distraction that was going about, the dancers was putting on quite a show for the audience as well as goodies being given away to the crowd all by them just needing to play some games on the court.
Anyway, from the get go, the Dragons was dominating the match with plenty of shots from the 3 points line and with each shots, the crowd went wild! I would say Saigon Heat played their heart out but their defense was not the best in the world, with plenty of room for the Dragons to exploit.
The Heat players did put on quite a show though with quite a few dunks going on that got the crowd cheering and they would have won the match if their shots was more accurate. Plenty of wasteful attempts and the Dragons defended well to get plenty of turnovers. Wish the boys would be much stronger though with their offensive charges as they were easily boxed out on quite a few time over the 4 quarters.
The final result though is the Malaysia Dragons 97 – 86 Saigon Heat, so far, it’s 3 wins out of the 3 games they’ve played this season. Hope the boys will keep it up and not falter in the 2nd half of the season like the previous year.
The Westports Malaysia Dragons will play their next home game against the Bangkok Cobras on 1 February 2012. Game activities will start at 7:00 pm, mostlikely, I’ll be there to catch the match as well. Will you?
