Photos and Video from Disney on Ice 2010
Went to watch Disney on Ice recently and of course, taking photos is one of the activities throughout the whole performance. Before heading into the stadium, we naturally checked out the various stalls selling Disney memorabilia and as usual, brought a few items, of course those items are for the kids (but I’ll get to play a bit first).

One thing I notice from the performance is the lighting was quite bad. Throughout the whole 2 hours, despite having 4 spot lights, they are all focused on one Disney character! 2 hours whenever Minnie Mouse is on the ice, the 4 spotlights were on her. It’s like all the other Disney characters are not important at all. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto spend majority of their performance in the dark. Isn’t Mickey Mouse the lead character from Disney? Why is the spotlight only on Minnie?

When Minnie wasn’t on the ice, the 4 spotlights looked like they are lost most of the time. When Goofy were performance with Baloo of the Jungle Book, the 4 spotlights spend the whole performance searching around for a focus point when there are TWO! When the Incredibles was out on the ice, the same thing happens, the spotlights were just floating all over the ice. Is the performers moving too fast for the lights to follow? Maybe it’s just the 1st performance jitters but they should be professional enough to know what they are doing right? Didn’t the stage manager briefed the production crew prior to the performance?

The main focus of the performance was of the main Disney cast taking a tour of Disney Land and the introduction of The Incredibles into the Disney on Ice franchise. Buzz Lightyear fell TWICE during his performance with Donald Duck (a short clip of him falling can be viewed in the video below), Stitch made a bit part appearance performing 2 dance numbers. Mad Hatter and gang only showed up once during the parade no. and the finale parade waving good bye to the audience.

Audio wise, the whole system was a tad pitchy (in the word of the famous Dawg), I think they cranked up the treble too much as the music was unbearable at the part where the key went up a few octave. The duration of the performance was quite short compared to the ones I’ve been to in the previous years. About 1hour 15min excluding the break in the middle.

One of the most irritating thing that happened throughout the performance? People turning up late and trying to look for their seats in the dark. HELLO, IF YOUR TICKET TELL YOU WHAT TIME TO THE SHOW STARTS. COME BEFORE THAT TIME! NOT AFTER THE SHOW STARTS! Ok, this whole post looks a lot like me finding faults in the whole Disney on Ice but in actual fact, I enjoyed the whole show quite nicely. Looking at all those skaters skate around the rink make me miss skating around the Sunway Pyramid ice rink. Not that I’m a good skater, in fact, I sucked! but heck, still miss skating.

Below this post is a video montage of the various performance that entertained the audience throughout the 1hr odd.
