Man Utd to create History?

Yes, I’m a huge Man Utd fan, and no, I’m not jumping the gun here to say they’re going to win all 5 tournaments they are currently involved in. After all, the ball is round, anything could happen on the football pitch.
Watching Manchester United lift the Carling Cup do make me feel that they could lift all five trophies available to them this season. I’m sure even non Man Utd fans would like to see the potential history-making quintuple of trophies. Right?
Despite what Sir Alex says at Press Conferences and to the fans, his face told a different story, though, and there can be no question that the 67-year-old Scot has his sights on what would be the most remarkable achievement in European club football history.
The Red Devils already bagged the World Club Cup and the Carling Cup already, at the moment, they are top of the Premier League table, in the last 4 of the FA Cup and the last 8 of the Champion’s League (After the 2 – 0 win against Inter Milan at Old Trafford). The clean sweep, I believe, is well and truly achieveable.
If any team were capable of the five-trophy feat it would be Ferguson’s current crop of players, arguably the finest he has produced over his long reign reign at the club. The task ahead isn’t an easy one as the game has gotten tougher over the years.
Seven points clear with a game in hand, Man United could already smell the Premier League Trophy by now. United’s 1999 “treble” of EPL, FA Cup and Champions League crowns is widely regarded as Europe’s best-ever achievement. To repeat that while adding two more prizes would be off the charts.
On the EPL front, the toughest challenges the Red Devils have to conquer would be Liverpool (14th March), Man City (9th May) and Arsenal (16th May), these along with 7 other teams they will be facing in the league. Let’s just hope that the team won’t collapse under fatigue from so many games they are playing for back to back and throw away their lead. That’s what all fans fear at the end of the day when the team they support are still in so many competitions that requires them to travel here and there and not having the proper rest needed in between games.
Of course, we can’t say that the FA Cup is in the bags for the Devils as well as you and I know very well that Cup games are unlike the League, anything can happen. But if United were to continue their scintillating form then there should be nothing standing in their way.
On the Champions League front, Arsenal made it four English teams (along with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea) in the quarter-finals for the second successive year, their youngsters showing great composure to see them home 7-6 on penalties away to AS Roma. Along with Bayern Munich, Villareal, Barcelona and Porto, the tournament would be another testing ground for the Red Devils to get through.
If Sir Alex Ferguson plans to lead his team to create history by completing a clean sweep of trophies, then it has to be this year. Can’t wait to watch this history in the making.
