Lunch @ Ipoh Garden East Ocean Seafood Restaurant
It’s been awhile (since Chinese New Year) that the loads of us adults and our bunch of noisy little monsters got together as a family for lunch, and so we head over to Ipoh Garden East Ocean Seafood Restaurant and got ourself into a nice cosy room (so that the lunch hour crowd would not be bombarded by the madness that is in the form of 5 hyper active children) and got ourselves some well deserved food.

This restaurant is sort of my family’s usual eating place when we have the cravings of something more than our usual consumption. Even the staffs there are friendly to us like we’re their long lost friends each time we go, but then in Ipoh, it’s quite a norm that most people will know most people. The 6th Degree of Separation is in full effect here.

The 1st dish to arrive is the “Phun Choi“, it’s a chinese traditional dish cooked in a pot with many layers of vegetables, meat and sauces. In this pot, there’s the big tiger prawns, a few varieties of vegetables and abalone. The sauce broth was boiled beautifully and isn’t thick enough to be sticky.

Along with it was served some Fried Buns, the buns are fried just til the right texture where’s crunchy on the outside and warm yet fluffy on the inside. The buns is eaten by dipping into the “Phun Choi”‘s broth.

As there’s children in this entourage, we also need to have some proper solid food that the kids will be able to consume and not complain about being hungry an hour later. So we ordered the Chinese Fried Rice for all to share. Just your typical fried rice that you can get anywhere else so there’s nothing much to talk about here.

Just to be sure, we also ordered the Fried Noodle, which is like all noodles is also quite common.

A family favorite dish ordered at most dinner outside of home is the Sweet & Sour Pork, pork roasted to a crunchy texture served with tomato sauces (with diced cucumber, onions and pineapple). The sauce was poured on just before serving so the pork retains it’s crunchiness. Nicely done.

A dish that we seldom ate but recommended by the restaurant manager is the Caramelized Fried Anchovies. Very interesting and sweet, the children loved it, the adults loved it and we wanted more!

The last dish served before dessert is the Thai Styled Lemon Fried Chicken. It’s a chinese styled Fried chicken with lemon sauce but as it’s name implied, with a Thai touched, it’s not too spicy so the children could eat them and the chicken was fried beautifully. I think I ate most of this dish compared to the rest of the family.

Before we go, we were served with some Pear and Mango to was down our lunch. The fruits was fresh and juicy and a great end to the lunch. Before we even go off, we already informed the Manager of our next visit and told her to prepare something more unique for our next round. Hopefully it’ll be the “Monk Jump Over The Wall“?

Wow! Your photos are so nice. Very informative post too.
The “Pun Choi” thing… the prwans… the temptation, and are those ice-cubes on the fruits? Looks refreshing…
