Lojing Aboriginal Kid

Some of you might know that at the moment, I’m traveling from KL to Cameron’s Highlands to Gua Musang and end the journey in Kota Bharu. Yesterday was the day we spend a fair bit of time at the Lojing Orang Asli Settlement, located between Cameron’s Highlands and Gua Musang. One of the activity I plan to do on this trip is to document the life of these people and to do some portraits of these people in Black & White.

The photos are shot in black & white on the camera itself as I don’t really see the need to do much editing on the computer once I’ve transferred the file over. It’s to also save time on my end. This kid I shot was really shy when I first went up to him, he saw me coming and start calling out to his parents while giggling away and as I got nearer, he dashed into the house to hide.

But once I sat down, talk to his parents and showed them a photo of him, they encouraged him to sit next to me, look at what I captured. All hell broke loose after that when he try to get my attention to take more photos of him even though my focus was elsewhere. I think I’ve just created a monster who can’t get enough of people taking his photos.

The journey today will lead me to the Gua Musang Orang Asli Settlement but before that, like yesterday, we’ll be spending a bit of time in the morning to talk to the forest rangers on what to expect from the orang asli. Not that they are dangerous and all, but they are more vocal in speaking their mind compared to many years ago when they are still shy. The other wonderful thing about this few days of traveling is, phone signal is practically ZERO on all telcos. Even within the settlement, there’s only 1 particular spot we have to stand on in order to get a bar on our phone. And cause it’s in the middle of the field. We decide to just stay by the shades than to stand under the sun just to check for miss-calls and smses. Not worth it at all. :D
