Kota Damansara Community Forest

It was a nice day and I decide to go out for a walk near home, even though there’s haze in the Klang Valley and it’s practically boiling throughout the day. It’s always a nice idea to go out for a walk, sweat a bit to allow the body some form of exercise. Right?

One of the place I like to walk towards is the Kota Damansara Community Forest, a beautiful spot near the edge of Kota Damansara, the place provides a refreshing view from our daily concrete jungle. Even though the place is beautiful, one thing that’s sad to see is the rubbish around the edge of the lake. We can only go down and pick up those that’s nearest to us but those that’s in a distance, it’s a tad hard.

The worst thing that I witness on this was that the boldness of some people that doesn’t care about nature, a Kancil (I didn’t have time to jot down the number plate) zoomed past and as it passes the lake, even in front of the 10 or so people in view of his action, just threw a bag of rubbish out of the car towards the lake. As he was zooming by, the momentum didn’t reach the lake of course but landed near one of the people fishing at that place. We can only show him the finger and shout at him being brainless cause obviously, he doesn’t give a hoot about what we think or feel as he would just do it even in front of people.

This lake is also a nice place if you’re into fresh water fishing, don’t mind whether you’d catch anything though cause it’s the time you spend, sitting there enjoying the scenery while waiting for the fish to bite the bait. An unwritten rule here is, if you plan to fish in this area and you caught one of the smaller fishes, to throw them back in. Why take them out of their home when you can allow it to grow bigger and then come back and bag it home to eat? Right?

The day was also quite nice in a way that even the moon can be clearly seen compared to the many other places where you look up and you see a layer of white haze obstructing your view. Thanks for checking out my photos and reading my rants, you can view more of the photos at my flickr (click here).

Here’s a map to get to the place if you’d like to visit the area yourself.

Must visit that place. Looks like a nice place to go. Hrmm will need a macro lens too and go bug hunting.

By the way, I think you may need to look for a new HDR software. It is really creating a very strong ghosting effect on your image.

@Nicholas Leong: Now I’m using Photomatix Pro, is there a better software to use for HDR? I think it’s my skill that’s the prob, just need to learn how to adjust it and not over tweak the settings.

@Joyce Tedoen: I still need practice. :( Loads of it

@Angie Tan: yup… great spot for taking nature related photos. Now waiting for a great Raptor migration and I’m sure can capture alot of interesting bird species.

I use Dynamic Photo HDR which is quite awesome :) But Photomatix Pro is as good as they come. Probably just the settings then :)

Very nice photos! and yeah that kancil is an embarassment to society…

regarding HDR, i’ve heard that Photoshop CS2 and later’s “Merge to HDR” function works well… I’ve not done any HDR yet but planning to and CS3 is all I have so I’m gonna try that soon.

@IHSAN: Yes, Photoshop does have the HDR function but Photomatix had that extra edge that many looked for cause they are a dedicated system to produce HDR photos.

Eh? this place is damn near my house lol n err u stay kota damansara as well?

I’ve been to this place once, checked it out hoping to find some nice hiking trail there but was disappointed with it. Nothing much to do there other then seeing this lake and wait for the light and shoot it. The word “park” decieved me big time when it wasn’t even a park =.=

Yes, I stay in Kota Damansara as well, if you look at the photos I posted, you can roughly determine the area I stay in. KAKAKAKA

It’s a park but don’t expect it to be a big place lor. At the end of the day, it’s still a good effort in trying to conserve the area and it’s fauna and flora. There’s another smaller park near the commercial area also, but that side, nothing much to see, alot of rubbish.

    Erm to lazy guess? haha

The forest reserve was already there even back when I first shifted here few years ago. More like some housing development killed part of the reserve already? lol :p especially my housing area dat is haha

How long are you gonna be here before you go? Wanna come out jalan-jalan shoot shoot a bit? lol hand itchy and wanna shoot as much as I can before I start looking for a job =( working world sigh…

    Jun 18, 2009 @ 5:10 pm

  18. Michael Yip

@Fumoffu: Yeah, there’s such places in Kota Damansara, since the birth of the township, the forest reserve was already there.

@CWKen: Yeah from the time the township started, that area was already designated as a green lung. There won’t be any development in that area, some parts of it was designated as a cemetary zone though, not sure whether it was still a go ahead or finally they gave in to the citizens and stop that project.

I’ll let you know when I am really going out to shoot and not just playing around with my camera k? :D

  19. CWKen

Good to hear that though. i’m quite an environmentalist in a way so yeah I’ll be upset if they scrap the forest lol

Alright sure, drop my a message in my blog when you are hehe although I don’t even if you’re just play around with your camera only lol
