Autistic and Down Syndrome patient Raphael Chang needs your help! His father’s unemployed, mother’s unwell. The family of 19-year-old Raphael Chang is appealing for financial assistance or in-kind contributions to help them cope with caring for Raphael, who is a special child.
Raphael is autistic and suffers from Down Syndrome. He was born with many severe multiple birth defects and health problems. When he was just six days old, he had to undergo an operation to create a bypass to his stomach as he suffered a blockage in his intestines. Raphael also went through open heart surgery at Institute Jantung Negara, and when he turned one, he had an operation to remove cataracts at the Malacca General Hospital. But sadly, Raphael is partially blind, suffering from total blindness in his left eye.
His father Chang Jee Kee, sent a typewritten letter to appeal to help him raise funds, which we hope donors and volunteers can respond to. In addition to caring for his disabled son, his wife faces mental health problems and relies on medication.
Chang himself was retrenched in 1998 and the family relies on public support and a welfare support of RM270 per month. He had included copies of Raphael’s medical reports from IJN and the Malacca General Hospital to support his appeal. We are able to send scanned copies of these letters to donors if needed.
