Christmas 2012 Brunch with SHELTER Home Children

Closing the 2012 chapter of my life not really with a bang but with just a little cozy Christmas Brunch with 45 children from SHELTER Home for Children. Sadly, didn’t get to enjoy this wonderful day with my own children as their mom took them back for the weekend for her own plans. Anyway, the whole thing was planned together with my friends from the PROJECT RAOK group.

We didn’t plan for any big hoo haa event as we wanted it to be a nice brunch for the children to celebrate the 2012 Christmas. The people of Food Foundry was very gracious enough to open it’s doors and provide a wonderful 3 course menu for the children as well as the caretakers that was there.

We had a little sing along going before the brunch was served and we also have some friends who donated clothes, books and also some cash for the home.

Lynn Dhia and her friends managed to pool together some money while some friends of mine donated clothes, toys and books for the children. Pretty tough these days to get anyone to donate anything, even old books and clothes. Sadly, a lot of these homes rely on us to assist them in caring for these children as not all homes are supported by big corporations and government agencies.

Food Foundry’s menu for the children was first, the Prawn Fritters that the children gobble up in seconds! That followed by the main course, a plate of 1/4 Roast Chicken (instead of Turkey) with 2 sides and followed by dessert of either Chocolate or Vanilla Mille Crepe. Even the adults have problem trying to finish the 3 course meal!

In between the meal and the entertainment, the volunteers who showed up also get to mingle around and talk to the children to know more about them. Definitely a great way to show the children that there’s us out there who care about them and want to find ways to help them as best we can.

One thing I realized over the year’s period is it’s pretty tough o get people to lend a helping hand or donate especially when there’s no publicity involved or they don’t get something out of it. Hopefully, 2013 will be different as there’s a long list of activities I was thinking of execute and will be impossible if there’s no one to assist. Let’s see what we can do for 2013 ya! Til next year, HAPPY NEW YEAR dear Readers! Have a fantastic 2013!
