Recently, I was selected by Philips as one of the 10 guys with the messiest face in Malaysia. OK, no, that’s not really the case, but I was selected by Philips as one of the 10 lucky guys to try out their new electric shavers. In my case, it’s the AquaTouch AT940 to be exact. Retailing at RM399.00, the price is quite reasonable for such a device as I remembered some of the model of it’s class is more expensive if I were to buy it back in the 1990s.

The first thing I did when I got the Electric Shaver? I did a drop test! ….. the box survived the drop while the Electric Shaver rest safely on my table. Bet I just gave the guys at Philips (if they stumble into this post of mine) a Heart Attack eh? GOTCHA!
Just a brief background on my experience with Electric shavers, since I started just those few years ago (just go along with me and let me indulge in this ‘fact’) when I entered college, I’ve always switched between an electric shaver and the tried and trusted blade. Especially when I need to do some traveling, some times, it’s just easier to pack the electric shaver than the blade. But, my old electric ones doesn’t seem to be able to give me that nice clean shave. That’s where I turn to the trusty blade, especially if I had to actually look good and clean shaven for a date or for a show.

Since then, it’s been my way. Fast forward to the present time, I keep my electric shaver in my car and my blade at home. Simply because, some times, at the last minute when I am already out, I had to go for an appointment and just need to give myself a quick shave, that’s where the electric shave comes in handy. For instance, when I was on my way to Philip’s office and I realize I forgot to shave. While waiting at the traffic light and after I parked my car at their parking space. I went for a Quickie Shave with my rear view mirror acting as my vanity mirror. Convenient, not that messy and quick.
Now, fast forward again to after I get home from Philips (you wouldn’t want to hear all those boring rants we had to endure right?), here’s the unboxing. Within the box, we get the AT940, a pouch for me to keep the shaver in (useful when traveling), a wall charger + the docking bay, the cover to protect the shaver, a small brush to help us apply the shaving cream…. clean the trimmer and the user manual (which will remain unopen from the day I receive this unit til forever and ever and ever) and of course, the box, which like I mentioned earlier, survived the drop test.

Now, just a quick run through about the AT940, it’s WATERPROOF! Now, I can shave and shower at the same time! Multitasking baybeh! But I wonder if it can be used while swimming or scuba diving? Any guys want to give it a try? The AquaTec system is quite handy as it’s optimized for Gel or Foam! So I don’t have to worry about only shaving dry (which at times can’t be quite rough to the face). The Dual Blades also do give a nice closer shave than my previous shavers and because it’s waterproof, I can give it a quick rinse each time I shave! Like the previous models, it came with a Trimmer and with Triple Track Heads, it can cover 50% more surface and with the pivoting function, give me a closer contact! Especially around my double chin area!

On a single charge, I get more than 60minutes of cordless shaves. I’ve yet to give it a full charge and then leave it on for an hour to time it but I’ll just go with what is written on the box, not like it takes me that long to shave. I might be vain but NOT THAT VAIN! One thing that I would have love for them to include in the box is an adapter for USB Car charger. Yes, the shaver is waterproof but that doesn’t mean the charger point can’t be design to use with a USB charger right? Especially when I get busy traveling and driving from destination to destination for work and unlucky to have the shaver’s battery depleted, it’ll definitely be useful to just be able to plug it in, give it a quickie charge and shave! Anyway, that’s just me being me, wanting everything to be easy peasy for use. Maybe I should go get a wall charger from the shop and modify one half of that chord to USB. (this is where we cue the MacGyver theme song, if you have no idea what’s a MacGyver theme song, then you’re still a baby!)

Anyway, that’s all for the unboxing + my initial impression part, I’ve since started to use the shaver and maybe in a week’s time. I can give you a clearer picture about my initial experience with it as compared to the older shavers I was using and how it fared against my old school blades. Stay tuned ya for more details soon! Especially if you plan to get it as a present for yourself or (if you are a girl) for your boyfriend or husband.
