Hennessy Artistry @ Orange Club

Hennessy Artistry featuring Shayne Ward, The DEY and Until June as well as DJ Tom Price has come and gone. I’m sure those who went enjoyed themselves tremendously and those who didn’t go wished they could have gone. As for myself, it was a memorable night throughout. This i consider a long and photo heavy post, so you’ve been warned.

The Hennessy Girls n Me

Firstly, I reached there about 7.15 with Freaky and Dinnas as I informed 15 photographers both experienced and new to attend this event as a field trip to learn about event photography. It might look easy and all but it really isn’t especially if you’re working with the most basic of gears which doesn’t help with it’s less than good compatibility with low lights. It’s either sacrificing the noise or go low on the shutter speed to get the shots we want.

About 8.15pm, that’s when every 15 photographers registered to attend the event showed up. A Quick briefing and a walk-about of the venue was done and the photographers was then encourage to fire away! As for myself, I go about grabbing some shots as well to keep myself entertained. The crowd started to build up even from 7.30ish but the doors to the venue was still blocked until 9pm before the crowd was invited to register themselves at the counters to get into the venue. The performing celebrities showed up about that time as well and with over 20 photographers there. They were mobbed around the vanity board to pose and all. I didn’t bother to try and grab shots as it’s more of a priority to allow the other 15 take what they want.

Pam Chong working the crowd

Start to see familiar faces throughout the registration period, friends both from way back and the media, models and fellow performers, bloggers and party animals whom I got to know over the years. From 10pm onwards, DJ Tom Price started to work the crowd with his mixing and getting the crowd worked up and by 10.40pm, Pam Chong stepped onto the stage to greet the crowd and introduce the crowd to the first set of performers in the form of Until June.

Until June

Until June’s performance was quite ok, I guess my expectation went up a notch from the previous Artistry event and somehow, their performance just didn’t get to me even though the girls around me was screaming their heads off. It doesn’t do well too that I have not heard of their songs before.

The DEY

Next up, at 11pm, The DEY came onto the stage, now, these guys, I like. They played some familiar music and some latin stuff which made me want to start dancing! OK, I know it’s bad and it’s worst when you’re standing around with a bunch of friends who kept poking you to start doing shines when they played some salsa tunes. They played some familiar songs which we hear over the radio often and their stage performance was good. I guess bands (Until June) can’t really push themselves as they have to be by their musical instruments at all time.

At 11.40pm, i felt a sudden push from the back, not because got people trying to push me onto the stage but the crowd’s sudden built up around the stage surprises me and I knew the reason. It’s the last performance of the night and the very group that every girls in the club was waiting for. Pam Chong gave a warning too to all the guys in the club to start clinging on to their girlfriends and wives so that they won’t be drawn onto the stage. I highly doubt such a thing could happen in Malaysia, we are too polite and conservative compared to other countries when it comes to this kinda things.

Shayne Ward

12pm was the time it al ended which was surprisingly fast and with Shayne Ward being ushered off the stage, you see the crowd dispursing back to their respective tables and groups to party the night away. As for me, I went about checking on my crew and made sure they are ok and start to enjoy themselves before I made my own way to my own group of party people. It was all drinking and partying and drinking (coupled with some broken glasses here and there) as well as camwhoring all the way til 3pm before Freaky came up to me and say “Dude, all alcohol and no food makes me hungry, let’s go man!”. Well, that’s a cue better than ever to signal a retreat from the venue back to Bandar Utama for a good round of Mamak.

I’d to say downing just Hennessy over and over again do make me feel sleepy faster than usual and so, by 3.30, I told Freaky that I ain’t going to hang around but  go home and sleep or I’ll just sleep in the car. With that, I concluded the night back home, in bed alone, contented with the night’s event and sending smses to the 15 photographers thanking them and wishing them good hunting (well, we shot alot of photos there’ll be alot of hunting about the albums picking out the nice ones).

Photos are separated into 3 albums:
