Heineken presents A Night in Rome

On Saturday, StrippedSteph and I headed over to Hap Seng Star with Joshua Ong for the Heineken presents A Night in Rome. The whole Mercedes Benz showroom was turned into a fashion runway and mock Roman architecture as fans of the game and drink hang around, mingle and party the night away. Got to meet the elusive Racheal Tan at the event, despite in constant contact online, this was the first time we met. But then, she disappear again running all over the place keeping the crowd happy at the party.

One thing I’d like to point out about that night is that invited guests have to PAY for their own drinks! This is the first even I went to where guests doesnt get free flow of drinks (a good example of a party that gives you free flow of drinks until you get pissed drunk was Hennessy Artistry). I mean, you invite people to the event and you expect people to pay for their own drinks. Call me cheap but the event was organized by Heineken, I’m sure they have within their budget to give away free drinks from within their own company right? Proceed after the jump for more photos.

The next problem was that the crowd had to hung around for way too long for the fashion show to start, yes, Joey G was spinning and keeping the crowd entertained but I look around, walk around and talk to some friends and almost all of them mention the same thing. It’s taking too long and they were getting bored. Yes, VIPs get free food but everyone else just stand around not sure what’s happening next and when it’ll happen. Some people even left before the fashion show starts.

The fashion show itself was mediocre, I’ve seen better fashion shows. The models look like they could trip over their own legs any time while walking and I don’t blame them. The shoes they were wearing were practically running away from their legs. Some of the girls’ shoes ended up by the side of their leg when they walk off stage. OK, the show was focused on the hair but heck, the shoes distracted me.

Performances, Marion Caunter was stunning as the emcee, Joey G spun some nice tunes, Maria Raiz look lost with her operatic performance as not many people in the crowd knows how to appreciate it. I was asked by a chinese guy and his date why is she coming on stage to scream into the mic and then walk off? What is the purpose? Bumblebeez look like some cheap act that stumbled upon a turntable and a mic and start to abuse it.  LapSap was ok but we decided that the R&B music at the Bar above Hap Seng Star was much better to our ears.

The great thing about the night is I got a chance to catch up with some friends and bloggers as I’ve not been in the partying scene for some time (even some of you pointed out to me why I no longer had any more party related posts and photos). Sat around, drank some beers and wonder what the night’s in store. Some of us had more pressing things in mind like what’ the score of the Man Utd game that was playing that night while we were there.

Well, after 3 months out of the partying scene, the first one I go to, quite disappointed. I’m sorry organizers, but really. I was disappointed, I tried to enjoy myself that night but I was bored to the core. Well, I’d like to congratulate the guy that won the golden ticket, an all expense paid to Rome to watch the Champions League final. After all, all the people buying bucket load of beers that night paid for his trip.

@clarisseteagen: ah i see. I always felt that organizers tend to put less effort in organizing events in iPoh. :(

@ShaolinTiger: sigh.. the server hosting this site went down this morning, I wonder whether it was the root of this problem.
