Dancing the night away
It’s been 2 months since I last got into Salsa Havana due to the things I’ve been doing outside of dancing. I’ve to admit that Saturday was the day I wanted to just laze at home and watch some EPL games but thanks to some friends who’s persuasion is very good, I got off my lazy ass, changed and drove down to KL to dance the night away.

The packed Dance Floor
Stepping into the club, it felt fantastic! The people, the music, the dance! Was greeted by familiar faces majority of whom asked whatever happened to me cause so long never see me in the club as well as some new faces as Salsajay brought out the new students into the world of Social dancing.

The Birthday Girl
The night also saw May Lin celebrated her first birthday in a Salsa club, but sadly, no Birthday dance off. It must have been a shocker to her if that were to happen seeing that it was her virgin trip to a salsa club.
As for myself, with so many things to think about, it was a good way to unwind as well as get some work out done. I don’t go to the gym, so the only form I do get from work out is from dancing as we don’t normally feel tired dancing all night long and we get to sweat it out! Furthermore, the friends I’ve made over the year hangs out there and I get to get onto the decks to play some music myself if the Deejay doesn’t play my favorite songs.

Dancing Salsa
Comparatively, try dancing and sweating it out at Zouk or any other clubs which focuses more on house music and drinking and I doubt anyone out of your circle of friends would want to get nearer to you. You might even get a good slap or get thrown out of the club if you get too ‘cozy’ with the female patron at the club too. Quite different when it comes to dancing, everyone knows that you’re there to dance and everyone basically sweats when there’s alot of variation, spins and combinations involved. You’re not the only one who sweats and it’s an understanding that you do wipe yourself dry with your towel or some tissues after you dance a couple of dance. This apply especially to the guys cause we seem to sweat more than the girls.
Another aspect of social dancing in this form of Latin clubs is the show of respect that guys tend to give to the girls, the understanding that we are here to have fun through dancing and not here to hit on you and so forth. So even when dancing a sensual dance like Bachata, everyone knows just that, it’s just dancing and not because the guy is trying to take advantage of the girl when the dance require close proximity. If that’s the case, the guy would have gotten a good slap in the face. Yes, no doubt there’s a few bad apples in the clubs but they too realizes that their game is blown, so either they buck up and just dance like everyone else or they get sidelined.

Dancing the Bachata
3am in the morning, despite the fact that I just want to keep on dancing, I know i’m too thirsty to do so and joined some friends at the usual haunt for a drink and catching up. Back home now, it felt good and only encourages me to dance even more and try to pick up new styles as even I start to feel bored with the moves I have. Some photos from the night’s here.

heyyah. My teacher also dance salsa and ball room geh! seems fun hooo
wow glad that u made ur way to Salsa Havana instead of staying at home! Very true on the dancing spirits & mutual respect for partners. Unfortunately, when i tried introducing Dav to the world of social dancing, he got real turned off, esp when i was dancing wt a Jap guy. He went ‘i dun like it, he took advantage on u, he is real hamsup!’ @_@ wth?? If i do bachata in front of him, he sure faint! Haha, i dun blame him coz he came from a very diff background and was not exposed to dancing society before. So, tht’s how i got drifted apart from my passion for dancing.
He is alrite with my Ballroom, but i find it too boring n too strict.
Dance more often ya!
JunJun; But u weren’t there mah :p
minna: Yes, it is fun.
