Chinese New Year 2010 Celebration

The 2010′s Chinese New Year was slightly different compared to the previous few years. Different cause this would be the 1st year I am able to celebrate Chinese New Year with my kids and it’s also the year I have to rush between work, short holiday and work.

Even on the 1st day of the New Year, I had to spend a bit of time to do some work. It’s all good at the end anyway as we still manage to go through the customary visits to my Grandmother’s home in Gunung Rapat, lunch at my uncle’s place followed by more visitation to other relative’s place before completing the 1st day with a steamboat dinner with family and friends. Oh yeah, the mahjong and black jack session helps too.

The fun part wasn’t the gambling bit but spending time with the bunch of monsters after dinner and ensuring they don’t light the whole building on fire with the fireworks. The laughter and the smile we see on their faces sure bring joy to us.

Of course, even though I didn’t bring my dSLR back with me, I’ll still try to capture some of the moment with my point-n-shoot camera. Especially those of the kids playing with the fireworks.

Sleep deprivation has been part and parcel of Chinese New Year within my family. Yup, we don’t really get much sleep (among the adults that is) during the 2 days of Chinese New Year. Simply because we have to go visit relatives and all as well as having bunch of kids running circles around us. The only time the adults in the family can sit down and um… bond through some card games is once the kids are finally in bed.

3rd Day of Chinese New Year was spend basically traveling back from Ipoh back to KL as I had to get back to work immediately after. So it was a rush this time around instead of the usual 4-5 days I spend with the family for Chinese New Year but heck, the 2 1/2 days with the family is still better than nothing. Of course, we’ll just be looking forward to the Chinese New Year next year. How was your Chinese New Year?
