TGV Club Launched @ Sunway Pyramid
TGV Cinemas in Sunway recently launched the IMAX hall and now put another historic launch in their book to kick off 2012! What I’m talking about? I’m talking about the TGV Club, their first and ever premiere class halls (there’s 2!) in the very same venue as the IMAX theater! Was told by Kenny that Sunway Pyramid is one of the biggest draw for TGV Cinemas when it comes to cinema goers, that’s why the public that goes to this venue gets pampered with all these new goodies first.

Felt honored to be invited to the launch as I’m a movie buff (even though I don’t write movie reviews often in here, will work on that or anyone willing to volunteer their service in doing movie reviews? Let me know, I can take you along with me to the movies, and you do the writing) and at the same time during the launch, I got the meet up with acquaintances I got to know from way back in 2008 (but lost touch). How cool is that? (more…)
watched JOURNEY 2: The Mysterious Island
In this follow-up to the 2008 worldwide hit “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” the new 3D family adventure “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” begins when young Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role from the first film) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist. It’s a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret.
Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.

The Screen Play

If you’re expecting some form of terrifying adventure ala Pirates of the Caribbean, this is not really the movie for you, it’s a family oriented movie with Josh Hutcherson reprising his role as Sean from the Journey to the center of the Earth. The extensive use of dramatic camera angles works well for audience who is planning to watch it on IMAX or on 3D but will fall short for those planning to watch it on 2D. I watched it on IMAX and it felt like going through a roller coaster ride. Truly enjoyable.

The Cast
Dwayne Johnson, Sir Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán and Kristin Davis.

The Cast’s Performance

The cast didn’t really do well in this movie, I’ve seen better performance from Dwayne Johnson and Sir Michael Caine, Luis Guzman tried a tad too hard to be the comic of the crew and basically get drowned out by Vanessa Hudgens that didn’t really do much in the movie but to just look cute and be the love interest of Sean.

Mikeyip.com Rating

It’s a family movie, more appealing to children between the age of 10 and 15 than for adults. I doubt young adults would find it interesting too. My kids wants to go watch it again on IMAX though for the 3D extravaganza on a bloody huge screen.

watched Puss In Boots 3D
He got famous playing the the side kick of Shrek, now, he has his very own movie to boot. It’s a story of where he came from, with a mixture of intrigue, betrayal and adventure all intermix beautifully in 3D. This movie was originally planned to be Direct-to-DVD and thank God they decide to release in the cinema first.

The Plot

Long before he even met Shrek, the notorious fighter, lover and outlaw Puss in Boots becomes a hero when he sets off on an adventure with the tough and street smart Kitty Softpaws and the mastermind Humpty Dumpty to save his town. This is the true story of The Cat, The Myth, The Legend…The Boots. (more…)
watched The Adventures of Tin Tin
Alot of people grew up reading the adventures of Tin Tin as well as caught the cartoons that used to be on TV, that was many many years ago. I asked some of the younger friends whether they know who is Tin Tin and the blank look says it all. With Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, what better way to bring Tin Tin, Snowy and Captain Haddock to the big screen and introduce the new generation of movie goers to them. Right?

The Plot

Based on the internationally beloved and irrepressible characters created by Hergé, the story follows the unquenchably curious young reporter Tintin (Jamie Bell) and his fiercely loyal dog Snowy as they discover a model ship carrying an explosive secret. Drawn into a centuries-old mystery, Tintin finds himself in the sightlines of Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine (Daniel Craig), a diabolical villain who believes Tintin has stolen a priceless treasure tied to dastardly pirate named Red Rackham. But with the help of his dog Snowy, the salty, cantankerous Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) and the bumbling detectives Thompson & Thomson (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), Tintin will travel half the world, outwitting and outrunning his enemies in a breathless chase to find the final resting place of The Unicorn, a shipwreck that may hold the key to vast fortune . . . and a ancient curse.
