From now until 31 May 2010, entrants can submit an original photograph with a caption to the CapitaLand “Building People” Photography Competition website (www.capitaland.com/ngc-photo). The photograph must feature a CapitaLand building, and most importantly, reveal how the building interacts with the people living, working or shopping there. A judging panel comprising Jeff Hutchens and CapitaLand executives will evaluate entries on aesthetics, originality and the extent to which it captures the “Building People” theme.

Three winners will be chosen by the judging panel to join Jeff Hutchens in a private photography tutorial in Singapore in August 2010. A special “Viewer’s Choice Award” will be selected through public voting hosted on the CapitaLand “Building People” Photography Competition website in July 2010. All four winners will be announced on the website on 20 July 2010.

Jeff Hutchens, award-winning National Geographic Channel photographer, said: “A great photograph, like a great building, generates an emotional response. It has beauty and humanity. This is what we are looking for in the CapitaLand “Building People” Photography Competition. I’d like to thank CapitaLand and National Geographic Channel for giving amateur photographers a chance to show us how they relate to the buildings around them. I look forward to seeing these architectural images and to meeting the talented photographers who make them.”

Additionally, the winning photographs and all photographs shortlisted for the special “Viewer’s Choice Award” will be exhibited at the ION Art gallery in ION Orchard, Singapore’s premium shopping destination, from 5 to 9 August 2010.

The CapitaLand “Building People” Photography Competition is part of a year-long series of activities organised by CapitaLand in 2010 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its inception. More details of CapitaLand’s 10th anniversary activities are available at www.capitaland.com/10.

All I can do at that moment was to pick up my jaw that has dropped to the floor looking at this bag of goodies. Then the following question came to me, what are those guys thinking? Trying to make me get back into running or more precise cross country running?

These guys at World of Sports lectured the other day about me using the wrong type of shoes as when we first met, I was in my basketball shoes. The first question they asked was, “You do a lot of walking right? Why are you wearing the wrong type of shoes?”, of course I countered with “I love these shoes, they are comfortable! Furthermore, to me a sports shoe is a sport shoe. Does it really matter if it’s a basketball shoe or a running shoe?”. Let’s just say that after talking to the 8 times World Grand Prix Mountain Running Champion, Jonathan Wyatt and a few other avid runners. My perception towards wearing the right type of shoes for the right activity is crucial.

The shoes that I was presented with is the Salomon XT-Wings. It’s Red, has these cool Kevlar® Quickfit™ lacing system that takes just one pull for a precise fit and there’s lace pockets to hide the lacing! It also have reflective detailing that helps increases visibility of the users in low light.

Having used it for the last 3 weeks, I must say that whether you are walking or running in it, the shoe’s very comfortable. It’s also grippy especially when you’re running through patches of slippery concrete areas so your footing remains firm and you don’t feel like you’re going to fall off.

Running through terrains also feels much more comfortable and secure as the bottom part of the shoes provide great cushioning and protective armor. I was running through some patches of loose gravel as well as some rocky area recently and while I could feel the stones trying to poke their way through the shoes, the XT-Wings remains firm and well, I felt much more assured in running through instead of slowing down not wanting any stones to finally break through upon impact.

I’m no shoe expert or a professional runner to write about all the technical stuff. All I can say is my own personal experience with the shoe. So all I can say is, the styling is cool even though I was told by some that it’s too red! Very comfortable, it’s lightweight with Aggressive, forward-tilted weight balance and has a Secure grip and traction on rough and tricky surfaces. Did I mention that you don’t have to tie laces with the shoe? There’s this cool Quickfit system that can be hidden away after you tug on it to ‘lace up’. With that, there’s no worries of the laces coming loose in the middle of a run. Cool right?

The Salomon XT-Wings are available at all World of Sports outlets, just head towards the Salomon section of the outlets. It’s presently retailing at RM529 in Malaysia and SGD229 in Singapore.

We’ve heard of many tales about the good and bad customer service in Singapore, personally, I had experience quite a number of good and also bad services at some of the places I patronized. One of the best services I have ever experienced was in a run down restaurant somewhere in Balestier. Despite the place being packed with customers, the staff would still put in an effort to make sure you have a place to seat, get your drinks and meal promptly and not be too pushy. It was a very comfortable meal for me despite the meal not exceeding more than $10.

There’s also a few bad memories of terrible services I’ve experienced, one of them was at Marche’s where I felt like I was being ushered into a goat’s den throughout the whole time. Being a tourist, we tend to take photos of the food we eat and the place we ate at but at this place, I got told off and the restaurant staffs just gave us the stare throughout the whole meal. Whatever happen to the courteous mention when I did it? I would have no problem if the staff come up to me and say it in a nice way that I’m not allowed to take any photos. Right? Rather than be treated like a naughty student that did something wrong in class.

There’s a new site in town known as Are You Being Served? where they have a team or ‘Service Squad’ that would check out places, restaurants and shopping centers to highlight the customer service missions and experiences. And not only that, they also allow readers to write in to comment about it. Whether to counter the experience that was written by the Service Squad or to add on to the post.

As a reader, you could also suggest a mission that the service squad can take on. I’ve suggested some to them, all depends on whether they’ll take on the mission or not. Sometimes, it’s a good thing to have such sites as we are not always there to go experience certain things and as usual, we are all curious bunch so if we don’t have the time to do it, why not get some one else to go.

Comes all the way from Denmark and is now being sold on Stripped Closet.

Just brought one for myself from the Stripped Closet Online Boutique. Really cute stuff, it’s not one of those big hats you wear but it’s just a tiny cute one (measuring 3×3 in size) that can be pinned to your hair as part of the hair accessories.

No I didn’t buy it for myself to wear but for someone special. Anyway, it’s quite reasonable anyway, only cost RM55 per piece. It’s limited stock so once all of it’s finished, there won’t be anymore for sale!

Well, like all planning, we need to do some research online before moving forward with our plans right? Through my search, I came across this site by MR Direct Incorporated that sells undermount sink that comes in Stainless Steel or granite.

Looking at the price, it’s quite affordable too, $94 for the 3121L Undermount Offset Stainless Steel Sink. It look really great, as it provides a bigger bowl for the washing of dishes and the smaller bowl that I could use to soak vegetables before cooking. The current one I have has two of the similar sized bowls which when used for soaking vegetables or table clothes, waste a lot of water, something I don’t want to do. The other interesting thing about this sink is it’s undermounted, what it means is that the sink is mounted under a counter as opposed to being “dropped in”, this is so you won’t get the edge of the sink popping out of the counter top. This undermounted thing would surely come in handy, since I love to chop stuff on the counter top and I can just easily sweep all the crumbs into the sink instead of sweeping outwards and have some falling onto the floor.

These guys also have undermount granite sinks, according to the site, the sinks are made of 100% environmentally friendly materials (80% Quartzite, 20% Acrylic ). Comes coated in bacteria killing silver ions which kill 99% of bacteria on contact. Truthfully, I don’t really know for sure if it is as it’s written on the site, we never know for certain, but then, when the design suit our taste and the price looking affordable, a person like me won’t really complain much.

Looking at the designs available, I’ve come to a few selections that I might be able to use. Now, it’s all down to the measurements before I make my decision. Wouldn’t want get a sink that’s too big or too small for the existing counter top right? In the current economic situation that is hitting the world, finding a site that offer reasonable priced products that we need is hard but then, when we found the ones we wanted. It’s pure satisfaction.

An Issue on Valentine’s Delight, this issue include picks from various food bloggers, among those featured in this magazine are PasanKia, Joan, Joe, Lilian, Jasmine, Christine, IpohWav3, Aishah, Big Boys Oven and not forgetting, Myself!

The articles that they took from me are old though, quite old until they had to remind me about the articles they are planning to use. I told them, it’s best that I re-write the article that they wanted to reflect the latest but it was too late as the magazine had gone to print. There’s a few gasp and shock here and there but then, there’s nothing much I could do as the article was already published.

Overall quality of the magazine is quite good, it doesn’t have that cheapo magazine feel despite only costing RM2.99 per copy. It does feel better than some magazine I read recently which was poorly made but cost more than RM10 per copy.
