A Weekend in Port Dickson

After all those traveling about and partying, I decide to hide away to Port Dickson for a good break. To spend a quiet weekend with not much activity other than walking by the beach, sleeping and eating. Sounds like a good plan isn’t it?

The last time I came down to Port Dickson was back in 2006 with a bunch of friends to hang out at a Chalet somewhere near the 9th Mile with some BBQ thrown in. But that was back then, now, is a more serene trip. A trip to recharge myself for the coming ‘battle’, a trip for me to really plan what I need to do next to get everything moving.

Did this trip do me good? Oh yes it did, having able to spend time with the people I cherish most also works well too. Coming back, sitting here watching Man Utd play against Portsmouth in the Community Shield, my head is buzzing with ideas, with strategies which I just need to put down into paper but instead, I thought I’d just pen this down before I continue.

One of the thing I discover on this weekend is the little things that we don’t see when we drive about, also, how we take things for granted when we live in the one place for too long and not see things that other people see. Here’s what I meant, I was once asked to name a few places which would be a place of interest to my friend who came from Australia and I couldn’t think of a place and so, instead of driving about, we decide to just hope onto the LRT and see where it brings us only to have my Aussie friend tell me about all the wonderful sites that we could see (which I couldn’t see or rather, not bothered to look cause I past by it so often that to me, it’s just another building).

The same thing happened here when I asked StrippedSteph what is nice to see in Port Dickson only to have her say that there’s not much to see as it’s just a small town by the beach. And so, I decide to just get out of the car, armed with my little camera, just go for a walk about town and despite recognizing some of the places that I’ve seen so often whenever I drive past the town to the beach, I begun to see the little things which I normally wouldn’t be bothered about and get fascinated by them.

It’s a weird yet nice sensation as I stood there under the hot sun looking down at all those minute details of the railway track (yet being told by a local that I look weird, like a mad person walking about in a patch of land in the middle of town). I tried explaining about the things

I see which I never saw before when I drove past the area last time and was told that those things have been there for ages, no one bothers about them anymore.

Well, locals of a town or city might not care or not bothered about what happened to a spot or object or building in the area but as a ‘tourist’, I’m fascinated by them. You might not see the same beauty that I see in these objects but hey… beauty is in the eyes of the beholder right? Different things brings different fascination to different people. Alot have changed over time, imagine something that we take for granted to be there forever will some day be removed. Will you miss it or would you not realize unless people ask?

This is just what I feel, what went through my mind when I walk about Port Dickson town looking at the various interesting things that I could see. Have you paid attention to your surrounding lately?
